The ordination of women has seriously damaged Anglicanism and represents more than a change in church policy: it marks a rupture with the Church’s historic understanding of Holy Orders and has contributed to a wider crisis of Anglican identity. For centuries, Anglicanism understood the ordained priesthood and episcopate as a male office, in continuity with the practice of the early and undivided Church and with the example of Christ choosing male apostles. When provinces began ordaining women, this historic consensus was abandoned, creating profound disagreement among Anglicans over whether the Church has authority to alter an institution received from Christian tradition. The consequences have been ecclesial as well as theological. In the Church of England, the introduction of women priests led some clergy and laity to leave Anglicanism, while disputes over alternative episcopal oversight, the ordination of women as bishops, and recognition of one another’s ministries continued for decades. Across the worldwide Anglican Communion, different provinces have adopted incompatible practices, weakening the sense of a common sacramental and ecclesial order. The Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON, now the the Global Anglican Council), have continued this practice. The issue also exposed a deeper problem: if a practice regarded for centuries as part of the Church’s received tradition can be changed in response to modern cultural assumptions, then questions arise about which other elements of Christian tradition remain authoritative. The novel idea of women’s ordination is a catalyst for fragmentation and is clear evidence of Anglicanism's movement away from its historic Catholic identity, and it explains why many traditional Anglicans regard the change as a decisive moment in the Church's loss of theological coherence and institutional unity.

An Anglican Renaissance Movement Statement On the Bishop Edgar Situation: "We at Anglican Renaissance Movement want to officially commend Rt. Rev. Dobbs and the ACNA College of Bishops for the swift, professional, and stern action against Bishop Chip Edgar. We are pleased to see discipline being enforced while also handling the situation with the due grace and temperance we are called to have in the Church. This situation very easily could have been ignored by the province, or, possibly worse, the province could have been swept up in the online witch hunt that has been forming. We also would like to commend Bishop Edgar on his humility and honesty in this situation, it takes a strong character to be able to publicly admit a mistake of this nature in a leadership position. It is a selfless act to be able to immediately consent to discipline. We pray that this is lifted up as an example of proper church discipline and that other bishops would be inspired by Bishop Chip's humility in this situation to reflect on their own possible mistakes they have been making in the office."

The Dean of ACNA, Julian Dobbs, has issued a strong statement: Brothers and Sisters in Christ, A situation has arisen in our Province that has given great offense to many who worship in our churches. I want to address this and be plain about the position of the Anglican Church in North America. At issue is the recent participation of the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina, ACNA, with a bishop of The Episcopal Church in a joint dedication of a local school chapel. Many within our Province have been shocked by what appears to be renewed communion with The Episcopal Church, while others are confused by the controversy. As such, I want to reaffirm the position of the Anglican Church in North America and renew the biblical call to repentance and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. It is now nearly two decades since many of us separated from The Episcopal Church, whose leadership abandoned the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. Departing from those with whom we worshiped and served was costly to our parishes and to our souls. It remains painful for many of us. It was, however, the right thing to do. Just as our Lord is faithful to His children, He calls us to be faithful to His Word. That is unequivocal. The Global Anglican Council has called those who hold leadership office in the Global Anglican Communion to a principled disengagement from any who promote false teaching. That same principle governs our relations here in North America with those who have departed from the faith we have received through the Word of God and expressed in the formularies of our Church. The Anglican Church in North America is not in communion with The Episcopal Church, and those who hold ecclesiastical authority in our Province bear a solemn responsibility to uphold this position. Let it be clearly understood that principled disengagement does not mean indifference. Our position has always been to pray for those who have departed from the faith and to call them to repentance. We continue to plead with the Lord that He would grant them a change of heart and restore them to the faith. It is because we long for that day that we speak plainly. Until it comes, however, we cannot be  in communion with those who have distorted God’s Word. The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina has communicated with his diocese regarding his original intentions in participating in the dedication and the resulting controversy. Next month, as part of the scheduled College of Bishops meeting, I will lay the seriousness of this situation before the bishops and ask them to consider with me what faithfulness to our Lord and the faith we have received requires of those who have been entrusted with ecclesiastical authority. In the interim, please kneel with me before God’s throne of grace to pray for the renewed faithfulness of His Church. In Christ alone, The Rt. Rev. Julian M. Dobbs Dean of the Province, ACNA

The Head Chaplain, an ACNA priest, celebrated. However when both bishops stand together jointly holding a crozier it's hard not to interpret that as mutual recognition of each other's ministry.

Due to the environment of the social media platform X, NAAR will only be utilizing the platform for announcing projects and moves done by our community working together for the benefit of the church. It is essential to our cause that it does not cling onto zealous fads, but on a clear and consistent goal: digging deep and engaging with our ecclesiastical leaders to help protect and defend orthodoxy in the church. We must remain professional and respectful with those who we even disagree with. I made this clear during my controversial remarks in response to the Esau controversy, and I will now. I despise the wickedness happening in our church as much as the next guy, but we must approach it sensibly and with patience.

Our Statement regarding the Bishop Edgar controversy has been taken down from our X page after public confusion regarding NAAR’s stances on the issue. NAAR, while not taking action at this time, does not condone the event and we will be reviewing it once more.

True
It’s been surprising to some folks that Anglican clergy are responsible to not commune (or commune with) those who are publicly living in unrepentant sin. Though it may be ignored by some clergy, it is baked into the ordinal and the exhortation.

"How is it possible that any bishop in the ACNA would dare to share the Supper of the Lord with someone who thinks that abortion is ok? Who by false teaching sends the souls of people whom God has made into perdition? This is the hour when men and women alike are in desperate, perishing need of the news that Jesus came to earth, died in our place, rose again, and ascended into heaven so that anyone who trusts in him might be saved forever. There is not a minute to lose. The night is far spent, the lamps need to be lit. Someone— anyone —needs to wake up before it is too late." Anne Kennedy, link below

For two bishops to stand together at the Holy Table and celebrate Holy Communion together necessarily implies that there is union between them and their dioceses. This is antithetical to the position of both the ACNA and GAFCON.

Here’s ACNA’s Bishop Chip Edgar co-officiating a worship service with a sexual sin affirming female “bishop” from the Episcopal Church. I believe this is a school chapel dedication with Communion. Why is an ACNA bishop legitimatizing the ministry of a an affirming woman “bishop” who is leading the Lord’s little ones away from Jesus and into hell? 2 John 9-11 is clear about this: “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.” Links below

Anglican Church in North America Bishop Chip Edgar communes with gay-affirming, pro-abortion Episcopal leader. Receiving communion from such a leader is a total no-go on many levels. Where is the discernment? #ACNA
