Time & again SEND provision in Oxfordshire fails to centre the child, & their needs. There are arcane rules, fragmented teams deflecting responsibility, inflexibility & no transparency. A Kafkaesque system that looses families that need support the most. tinyurl.com/ymby8hx2

thought we'd flushed this - but no back it bobs...
It seems @UniofOxford will now vote on whether to U-turn the success achieved by @MikeVolc and @space_quakes re: the abolition of the graduate fees. Is there already a counter-proposal? It seems odd to request this at the 11th hour, right before enacting the policy.

In 2020, Congregation (the University of Oxford's parliament) voted to abolish the practice of charging £70 to apply to be a graduate student here. In preparing our motion, we gave the university authorities until 2024/25 to abolish the fee. (1/n)

#UKbird ID help please. Seen in New Forest, on ~5 foot young pine. Area had gorse, with other interspersed young trees giving way to open heath/moorland. Several species seem possible fits - I have made my mind up - but not too confident. #UKbirding #UKwildlife #BirdID

I guess a couple of reasons for declining this kind offer to write for a multidisciplinary journal: 1) I'm not a clinician or parasitologist, and 2) Your address is for a bridal shop in Delaware. Or a balloon shop, I can't quite tell from the zip. I get 2 or 3 of these a day.

A bit of frost out early this morning, and extensive flooding, but glorious sunshine too. Seemed to be a day for lots of little birds with wren, goldcrest, treecreeper and long-tailed tits giving good views. #UKbirds #UKwildlife #Birding

Beautiful blue skies and sunshine yesterday. Flooded fields meant a change of route which led to a close view of this little treecreeper. #UKbirds #UKwildlife #Birding

Social media can often seem like a highlights reel. Papers accepted. Grants received. Offered tenure. Prizes and awards. This can make you feel inadequate when you compare your struggles with all these achievements. But remember these are just the highlights. @lizandmollie

😵 ‘Optical and Quantum Electronics’: 48+ unreliable articles riddled with #TorturedPhrases, mostly published in 2023. I suspect papermill submissions + compromised peer review. Hereby notifying @SpringerNature and Editors: @UniofNottingham 🇬🇧 @IL_PIB 🇵🇱. pubpeer.com/publications/2F8…

The @guardian hitting the nail on the head with this piece saying that the integrity of the scientific archive is under serious pressure. @deevybee also makes a good point: "People are building careers on the back of this tidal wave of fraudulent science" You should read this article, especially if you are not aware of the issues that the article raises. @GuardianEdu

A pair of red kites in view for much of my walk this morning. Seemed to be staying consistently lower than they often do - offering good views. #UKbirds #birding #UKwildlife

Pair of buzzards out too but stayed much higher and not seen for long, though they could be heard calling in the distance.

I'm seeing kestrel quite frequently in recent weeks. Yesterday I caught a behaviour I'd not witnessed before - a kestrel expelling a pellet to get rid of indigestible bones. fur etc. Presumably a sign that it had eaten well earlier. #UKbirds #UKwildlife #birding
