Btw I moved all of my media thoughts over to Bluesky and have kept this mostly for DB news and/or work posts. Feel free to check in over there if you're ever interested. Sadly, this site skews too heavily into rage bait and bad faith responses now. Not fun bsky.app/profile/animeajay.b…
First and foremost: Akira Toriyama. The whole reason I ever learnt to draw as a kid was because of his work.
After that, it'd be Bruce Timm. Batman: The Animated Series was my first true love with animation, and his design work was a big part of that.
As for nowadays... 🧵
In recent times, I've found my way back to comic art. Bruno Redondo is - for my money, at least - the single best comic artist working today. His shape language and minimal linework looks SO effortless but it takes immense skill to achieve. My studies haven't even come close yet!
Following Toru Furuya's abusive sex scandal, they've re-recorded Yamcha with his new voice actor Ryota Suzuki. First re-record of the entire show, I believe!
DBS: Beerus - Episode 3 Animation & Episode Breakdown:
Unfortunately, I was not a big fan of this episode. While episodes 1 and 2 mostly calmed my fears about tone and pacing, this is everything I hoped the show *wouldn't* be. A rushed, tonally inconsistent mess.
I just think on the whole this is a proper hackjob of an episode. Rock Paper Scissors as a prolonged cliffhanger and Vegeta freaking out forever again take up so much space when they could have been shortened to facilitate a smoother flow elsewhere. Baffling decisions all around.
