Important recognition of a distinct HCC subtype. Neutrophil-rich HCC appears aggressive yet immunogenic, with stromal and PD-L1 features that may open the door to targeted immunotherapy strategies.

Very important work done at @UCMCGIHEP @LiverDoc1 highlighting the significance of papaya leaf extract and hepatotoxicity.
@LuisLaraMD1
Here is an important report from @alexanderjdile
A report on how "seemingly safe" papaya leaf extract taken for low platelet count resulted in severe injury in the person.
Papaya leaf extracts (raw, homemade) as well as Pharma company marketed are widely prescribed by both doctors and alternative medicine practitioners as a supposed treatment for low platelet count, especially during dengue season.
This is a practice that is not evidence based. In fact, the largest metanalysis on this topic from SriLanka showed that papaya leaf had no significant effect on platelet count when used in dengue fever.
Even we had reported cases with severe injury due to papaya leaf used in chronic liver disease.
pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article…
People may argue that this is just one case report. And side effects are so rare, so what seems to be the problem? Rare side effects become extremely significant when there are no clinically relevant benefits in using a drug or supplement.
Close to 60% snake bites are dry bites...meaning the snakes do not purposefully cause envenomation. That does not mean snakes are friendly.

The pigeon has been wandering the exhibit hall all week. We might have to invest in some much smaller microscopes if he makes his way over to the IM rooms!
I knew pigeons could be trained to read slides, I didn’t know they would be attending #USCAP2025!
