The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has commenced stakeholder consultations on its proposed Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) Formalisation and Financing Support Programme (FFSP), scheduled for implementation in 2027. Led by Deputy CEO Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., the engagement brought together the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners (GNASSM), Concerned Small-Scale Miners, Hard Rock and Underground Miners, Ghana National Association of Gold Traders, and Chamber of Gold Buyers.
The programme seeks to formalise ASM operations and provide financing support through a structured framework. Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., emphasised the importance of incorporating stakeholder input before the programme undergoes Cabinet and parliamentary consideration.
Director of Responsible Mining, Professor Ishmael Quaicoo, outlined the policy framework and its key components. Further consultations will involve the Minerals Commission, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Water Resources Commission and other relevant stakeholders.

A delegation from Malawi, led by its Minister for Mines, Hon. Thokozani Tembo, has visited the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to study Ghanaβs gold sector reforms. The delegation explored GoldBodβs approach to licensing, pricing and curbing gold smuggling as Malawi seeks to strengthen its gold industry.
GoldBodβs Director of Responsible Mining and Sustainability, Prof. Ishmael Quaicoe, outlined the Boardβs licensing framework, standardised pricing and monitoring systems. He also highlighted approximately 104 tonnes of artisanal and small-scale gold mobilised in 2025, generating about US$10.8 billion in gross export proceeds.
