This is a very helpful paper and a must read for newcomers in fungal metabarcoding! Among other messages it shows clearly that the ASV/DADA2 approach of defining molecular taxa is not applicable to fungal ITS (at the very least).
Very valuable review from @DrHyfe about fungal metabarcoding. Review, for example, covers specific aspects of ASV vs. OTU approaches in fungal ITS based metabarcoding.
