I never imagined Prince Harry’s PR team could stoop to such a shameful level, yet they’ve managed to surpass even my lowest expectations.
Dr. Sophie Chandauka was born into a modest family in Zimbabwe, where her parents, both teachers, served as her greatest influences. "To afford my incredibly costly schooling and education, they got creative," she shared in 2023. "My father laboured in his garage, crafting metal playground equipment for schools, while my mother penned children’s books."
Today Prince Harry attempted to address Baroness Chalker of Whatley’s controversial remark labeling Sophie a "dictator," while also pushing back against a barrage of criticism. I had said that Sophie "prioritised the Senteable charity’s mission over Harry—a privileged, spoiled white savior relic—who still clings to his fading Diana card." I also urged him to "act with integrity and stop exploiting Africa and its people like some outdated colonial overlord."
Harry’s PR team, however, seems to lack self-awareness. After being called out for racism and bias in labeling a highly educated Black woman from Zimbabwe a dictator, Harry steps in to smooth over the Baroness’s comment. Yet, in a bizarre twist, they’ve shifted tactics—instead of branding her a Black dictator, they’re now painting her as a white master, doubling down on the colonial imagery used against Harry himself. His team seems to think it’s clever to flip the script, wielding a framework of historic white oppression to smear a Black woman. The resulting headline in The Times reads: "Boss of Prince Harry’s Charity Compared to Colonial Rulers." The irony is glaring—Sophie’s grandmother, Eileen Charumbira, was a poor housemaid in colonial Rhodesia during that very era.
In a 2023 interview, when asked who her "adult hero" was, Sophie named her grandmother, Eileen Charumbira—a housemaid in colonial Rhodesia who worked tirelessly to give her daughters an excellent education. Harry and his narcissistic wife’s attacks on Sophie are beyond disgusting, dripping with venom and hypocrisy, and they need to stop.
Certain individuals, blinded by unconscious bias against Africans, are now trying to smear Sophie Chandauka’s parents by portraying them as generals under Robert Mugabe or label them as colonial masters —ridiculous and baseless. Whether it’s the vicious attacks from Prince Harry’s PR team or the and bias spewed by some online, the underlying assumption is clear: because she’s African, she must be corrupt and untrustworthy. Yet these same critics will lap up a Vanity Fair article with cited sources as gospel truth. The hypocrisy is glaring. The problem isn’t Sophie—it’s the outdated, colonial mentality or 80’s charity perceptions of Africa that some desperately need to confront and abandon. I blame the media.
Not every African is corrupt, starving, or part of some remote bush tribe. Millions of Africans are highly educated, and the continent is rapidly emerging as an entrepreneurial hub with some of the world’s fastest-growing economies. there’s hope, innovation, ideas, and people striving for peace.
Let me put some respect on her name!
Sophie Chandauka, is a powerhouse corporate finance lawyer with over 20 years of experience. Her passion for law emerged early, leading her to a student exchange program in Canada. She earned her degree from the University of Michigan and kicked off her career with eight years at Baker McKenzie in London. Since then, she’s climbed the ranks, holding senior roles at top firms like the Virgin Group, Morgan Stanley, and Meta, according to her LinkedIn profile. Alongside her brother, she co-founded Nandi Life Sciences, a U.S.-based biotechnology company. Harry can piss off, he was hand everything on a silver platter and still failed.
To the Sussex Squad trolls and media friends supporting Harry and Meghan Markle, I urge you to cease your attacks on these intelligent and caring African women of strength. It's time for some self-reflection on your part.
