Actually, the drugs can cause permanent sterility in children and they also come with an extreme cancer risk. We used to give these exact same drugs to sex offenders and it was decided it was unethical to do so because of those risks. Also, because they are in puberty, we’re finding that their bones don’t properly form, harden and fuse, underdeveloped brains, underdeveloped hearts, and hosts of problems with kidneys and livers, diabetes, and dysfunction with their genitals—on top of the cancer and sterility risks.
Considering we have a desistance rate that is solidly at 30%, and some studies even show rates, often around 60–90%, and the lowest we have at 22%, and the risks outweigh the benefits, it’s time to rethink this considering the harm it is causing.
Furthermore, the scientific evidence is weak, not strong. The Swedish study that was the golden standard was redacted, the UK has also walked it back. That’s why the entirety of Europe has slowed down or stop—when they were once more supportive of gender affirming care than the US once was. So you are incorrect. The scientific evidence says it’s a bad idea and does more harm than good.
And lastly, the biggest argument was for their mental health and to prevent suicide. When receiving gender affirming care, their mental health issues get worse and their rate of suicide increases.
Adding it all together, the scientific evidence for GAC on minors is a very bad idea. It has tons of risks and development issues that harm children, trans or not, and for a lot of misdiagnosed kids, very unnecessary risks, it doesn’t alleviate their discomfort and increases their suicide rates, and almost all scientific evidence that supported it has been redacted, challenged and debunked, and there is way more scientific evidence proving it’s not beneficial. Heck, even a doctor refused to publish the findings because the result was undesirable.
You’d be surprised at how many things from the US that you can get in Japan. In fact, so many things are so integrated into their lives that they have no idea they’re American. Like Circle K the convenience store. Or Baskin Robins which they adorably call 31 Ice Cream.
