Visited Oradour-sur-Glane on a school trip in 1992. A moment where time still, and you felt history envelope you in seeing the remnants of the cruelty of man. The TV series is one we should all watch.
31 October 1973. 1st episode of the 26-part classic ITV documentary series World at War was broadcast. It was narrated by Laurence Olivier with music by Carl Davies. It cost £900,000 (worth £11 million today).

I love the " our neutrality" bit. What ' neutrality'? Is that a NATO frigate sitting in Dublin Bay? Who is guarding our airspace/ seas? We are not neutral when we have to ask NATO to protect us. Thanks to FF/ FG government who refuse to spend money on our own defence.

This angle of Man City's opener tonight really does show how embarrassing of support that club has... There is more empty seats, than filled ones, on a Champions League night.. 🫣

Michéal Martin to Sinn Féin today: "I won't take lectures from you, a party that once supported Nazism in WW2. Sinn Féin leaders colluded with the Hitler regime, and Sean Russell was the key person, and your party leader, Mary Lou McDonald, unveiled a statue to Sean Russell".

What you think @JohnDugganSport ?
🇦🇷🔻Marcelo Bielsa: "I am sure that football is in a process of decline." "It is becoming less and less attractive because what made it the best game in the world is not there anymore." "If you let a lot of people watch football, but you don't protect the pleasure of what they watch, that favours business, because the business is that a lot of people watch football." "For me, the introduction of technology (like VAR) does a lot of harm to football." "This sport has a particularity: when it becomes completely predictable, it loses its appeal." "As time passes, as fewer and fewer footballers are worth watching and as the game produced is less and less enjoyable, this artificial increase in the number of spectators will be interrupted."

Grim reading from Gabby Logan. Richard Keys and Andy Gray already had chequered pasts, but this is something else. “Even years after I’d left Sky, it appeared I was still fair game for Gray and Keys,” Logan wrote in The First Half. “I sat a row behind them on a flight to Istanbul for the Champions League Final in 2005, which I was covering for ITV. I was seven months pregnant with twins, and I was huge — I looked like I’d swallowed a space hopper. In full earshot of me, and anyone who might be listening in our business-class cabin, Richard said: ‘So, Andy, what do you think of pregnant women?’” “‘I’m afraid I don’t find them very attractive, Richard. In fact, I never slept with my wife when she was pregnant with our kids.’ ‘So you didn’t have sex, Andy?’ Keys asked. ‘No, I didn’t say that, Richard.’ Then they laughed their heads off at their little ‘comedy’ routine.” “I was embarrassed and thought their comments were especially cruel, bearing in mind they both had children and wives of their own. Luckily, by that time I had been working with lovely men such as Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend at ITV, who were kind and caring, always asked after my wellbeing, and seemed genuinely excited for me about the babies. Keys and Gray were dinosaurs, waiting to become extinct.”

No @MrsFleckles119 the IRA were and are terrorists and @sinnfeinireland their apologists
They were freedom fighters, Sharron. And why do you think they were formed in the first place? Pick up a history book. We Irish know our history because we lived it — you Brits were never taught it. Educate yourself before running your mouth, ya clueless clown. Now fuck off!

🚨 Sir Alex Ferguson on Sir Jim Ratcliffe putting an end to his global ambassador role of £2.16 million per year deat at united. Sir Alex Ferguson 🗣️ “ “When I retired as Manchester United manager in 2013, it felt like someone had taken a part of my life away from me. I had spent 26 years giving everything I had to this football club. Manchester United wasn't simply my job. It became part of who I was. That is why becoming the club's global ambassador meant so much to me. I needed that connection with Manchester United. They could have taken away every penny from that role and I would still have wanted to keep it , because Manchester United was never about money to me.” I didn't need the money. I needed the connection. What hurt me was losing the role that allowed me to remain closely connected to the clubI' I love. I gave my life to it. Every time I walk into Old Trafford, every time I sit among the supporters, every time I see that badge, there is something inside me that comes alive again. “Manchester United gave me some of the greatest years of my life. The least I ever wanted in return was the chance to remain part of its family.” You can take away a title, a contract or an ambassadorial position from me — but you can never take Manchester United out of me.”
