How do we approach the management of opioid dependant patient for surgery? Involve your pain team, maintain background analgesia, think about multimodal and non pharmacological techniques. Most importantly have an open non judgemental discussion with the patient.

It’s a good conversation starter but at @JeffAnesthesia we do NOT recommend cancelling surgery for pts still taking buprenorphine for elective surgery. Risk of relapse simply too high. Disagree with this part of the paper. Pain can be managed with cx surgery. #ANES18 @drchadb – at Philadelphia, PA
