Of course we need them. Apostrophes convey meaning, they are not just random decoration. Support the Apostrophe Protection Society!

I still think "tomatoes" (without an apostrophe) is better than "apple's"!

I see the misuse of "mens", "womens" and "childrens" too often. They're already plural nouns, so they can't take another "s". If the possessive form is required, add an apostrophe and then an "s".
This recent example should be "Children's". I've written to the manufacturer!
The official Apostrophe Protection Society T-shirt is now available via our website store!
You can choose from a variety of colours and sizes - why not order yours today!

"Apostrophe Cafe" was a small chain of coffee shops in the UK. This was not one of their finest moments!
Unfortunately they appear to have closed a couple of years ago - I hope this particular apostrophe horror wasn't responsible!
I've seen this type of mistake too often recently! Whether it's "Mens" or "Womens" or "Childrens", they're all equally wrong. "Men" is already a plural noun, it's just non-standard and doesn't end in "s". They could put "Socks for Men", or "Men's Socks", but never "Mens Socks"!
Hey @Tesco as it is Father’s Day, why isn’t it Men’s Socks?

Whilst my preference for the possessive of a name ending in “s” is to add an apostrophe and “s”, the alternative of just adding the apostrophe is also correct. Here’s a great example from the London Underground:
I'm particularly amused and/or shocked by this one! They knew an apostrophe was needed somewhere, but they unfortunately picked the wrong place!
