Let’s all go make fun of this woodcarving group for hosting a guy who makes crappy AI “patterns” for wood carving. And promotes the event with a crappy AI image.

Many of the DIY loft, playhouse, and bunkbed ladder builds you find online use nails or screws.
This rock solid ladder uses joinery, instead.
I know what you're thinking - that sounds like a real pain. But it isn't, thanks to dovetail mortise and tenons made with a router.
Spring 2025 we made a timber frame style ladder using our "big jig." A number of viewers complained that the treads weren't parallel to the ground. We took your suggestions to heart and designed pieces that allow you to make mortises at an angle using a router and router jig.
If you already own a 2x jig, make sure to check out our Etsy shop for the new stairs and ladder pack. There are new mortise side index pieces available with 15, 30, and 45º angles so you can make stairs and ladders more quickly and easily.
The tape layout method with this twisted dovetail layout jig is, by far and away, the fastest and most accurate way to lay out these dovetails.
The fit is so good that it went together on the first try 😎
"AI is coming for your job"
Don't worry, I'm sure the clanker designed houses assembled by robots are gong to be just fine. 😂
We grilled a bunch of hot dogs for a party Saturday and had a few left over.
Husband and daughter had them for supper Saturday and are polishing them off for lunch today.
I checked with both of them to make sure they’re okay with hot dogs for the third time this month. They looked at me like they’d be happy to have them every day, what was I on about
People with kids have a hard time being friends with the childless because, for the most part, childless adults are just children, themselves.
The childless think that not wanting to leave your three year old behind for the weekend makes you a “weird bitch.” Parents realize this makes you a normal parent.
We started carving because it's a portable hobby we could bring to the park while my daughter played. We kept carving because it was so much fun.
These little Santa gnome ornaments make fantastic Christmas gifts. How many gifts are you carving up this year?

East Versus West (why we prefer a Japanese slick)
There are two main types of chisel - striking chisels and push chisels. Slicks are large push chisels used for cleaning up timber framing joints like scarf joints and tenons.
We tend to think that bigger is always better, but when it comes to slicks, I think the smaller Japanese slick is easier to use and sharpen.
My in laws will be here in about half an hour and I’m not ready.
But, honestly, no amount of time would make me ready.
They have a causal, impersonal dislike of me and it seems like that will never change. They dislike me for not being a Miami Cuban and resent that my husband ever left Miami.
When he joined the Navy, his mom complained that we would meet some gringa and not come “home.” (Yeah, that was part of the point 😂) She disliked whoever that would be before she even knew I was alive.
I just have to make it through the next 48 hours without crying visibly and then it will be over. 😅😅
Alright, guys. Posting for accountability.
We're about to start building this small bunkhouse cabin so we can stay on site where we'll be teaching classes next year (at a new folk school about an hour away).
We're going to make an online course using this mini cabin/shed as the vehicle for teaching Western style timber framing.
The only Western style class online right now is Shelter at $700 for 12 hours of video and a 24x24 that no one is actually going to build.
This little guy is small enough to build without permitting most places for use as a shed, greenhouse, hunt cabin, etc.
Almost time to put the sleeves on hold!
My daughter made a skeptical face when I said the cats looked pretty good. 🤷♀️
Do you cook your own food?
Or are you a “normal person?”
😂😂😂😂

I mean not everyone into cooking. You could get local food from the farmer’s market and eat like a normal person
How to Make Perfectly Fitting Timber Frame Mortises (WITHOUT a chain mortiser)
A mortise is a mortise, but you make furniture mortises and timber frame mortises differently.
Today we're looking at making a timber frame mortise with a beam drill and tips for how to use a chisel to make a mortise and how to make sure your mortise fits perfectly on raising day.
The same basic steps apply whether you're using a beam drill, a drill press, a brace and bit, or a power drill.
No matter what tool you use to help you hog out the mortise, this is a way to make a timber frame mortise without a chain mortiser.
A Wood Owl auger bit is a must have. Everything else is a waste of your time. (affiliate link, I may earn on qualifying purchases) link.amazon/B0idMhHQB
