A critical conversation for Canadian theatre as #BIPOC artists with the hashtag #inthedressingroom. The entire industry is complicit, myself included, in creating & allowing environments where behaviour like this has gone unchecked for decades.

There’s an old saying in the theatre, “what happens in the dressing room, stays in the dressing room” it’s hard to be backstage and Black. #inthedressingroom

The Berliner Ensemble posting about its new reality and what its Großen Haus space will look like. This is of course Germany which has a vastly different funding model for its cultural institutions. Not sure any theatre in Canada will be able to do this and survive financially...

THREAD: 1/x Marjorie Chan is asked ‘What is the access point to the story for Western audiences?’ about her upcoming play CHINA DOLL. Marjorie humourously deflects the question with, ‘The theatre doors.’ I’m not sure I could’ve answered the same question with such grace and wit.
