#Rohingya muslim fleeing Myanmar’s northern #Rakhine State pay $300 to $500 for documents to get past Arakan Army (AA) checkpoints—to smugglers, to village administrators, or to armed group itself (para. 26). But the costs of being Rohingya in Rakhine are not limited to leaving.

Denying #Rohingya identity is a form of persecution that can contribute to the conditions enabling genocide.
No new Arakan can achieve lasting legitimacy by excluding the Indigenous Rohingya.
Without recognition & inclusion, international acceptance will remain a major challenge.

Locals: AA Orders Rohingya in Maungdaw’s Dargyisar Village to Leave by Month’s End
MDN — October 18, 2026.
Residents have told MDN that the Arakan Army (AA) has ordered Rohingya villagers in Dargyisar, located in the northern part of Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, to vacate their homes and relocate to Thu Oo Lar village no later than October 31.
Locals expressed concern that this order would force them to abandon their homes and possessions. The development has also heightened anxieties regarding the security and long-term residency of Rohingya people within Maungdaw Township.
According to residents, AA personnel arrived in the village during the first week of October—acting on instructions from the administrator of "Nga Khu Ya Area 4"—and issued the order verbally to the villagers. It is reported that they also threatened "severe action" if the villagers failed to leave by the specified deadline. A villager, who requested anonymity for security reasons, stated that they are not only facing the prospect of abandoning the assets their families have spent years accumulating, but they also have no information regarding when—or if—they will be allowed to return home.
"We are worried because we have been told that we must vacate our homes by October 31st. If we are forced to leave behind the possessions we have gathered over decades, we want to know: will the AA take responsibility for the property we are leaving behind?" he told MDN.
He further added that they seek clear explanations regarding why they are being asked to leave, how long they are expected to remain displaced, and when they might be permitted to return to their homes.
"If the AA has the authority to order us to leave our homes, they also have a responsibility to ensure we can return. Therefore, we want the AA/ULA to provide a firm commitment as to when we will be allowed to go back. We have no idea what will become of our families if we are forced to leave like this," another local resident told.

The repression of Rohingya identity is connected to Myanmar’s broader failure to establish an inclusive political order. It’s time for ASEAN to realize that. buff.ly/bcrWT4p

Following the pattern seen in Buthidaung on May 17, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) has ordered the Rohingya villagers of Ah Nauk Pyin (အနောက်ပြင်) village in Rathedaung Township to leave by October 17, 2026. Where are these people supposed to go? Are they being pushed toward the sea or into Bangladesh?
Since the AA took control of northern Arakan, official figures indicate that nearly 150,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh, while many others have risked their lives at sea.
In the past few days, the AA has also abducted more than 40 Rohingya from Ah Nauk Pyin village.

"Genocide within a Genocide"
World leaders and policymakers: Are you watching what is happening to the Rohingya in Arakan, Myanmar?
While the world discusses safe and dignified repatriation and awaits justice from the ICJ, Rohingya remaining in Arakan face another wave of persecution—this time under the Arakan Army (AA).
UN investigators and human rights organizations have documented serious abuses by the AA, including forced recruitment, killings, and displacement.
The Myanmar military persecuted Rohingya in the name of national security. Now the Arakan Army stands accused of committing similar atrocities while claiming to fight for liberation.
Both have denied Rohingya identity and fundamental rights.
Is the world witnessing a genocide within a genocide?
I warned the international community about the AA on April 24, 2024. More than two years later, accountability remains elusive.
The world must not wait for another mass exodus. Investigate the atrocities, protect Rohingya civilians, and hold perpetrators accountable—regardless of which armed group they belong to.

ARSA’s possession of Myanmar-made weapons is no grounds for criticism.
After decades of oppression since 1942, ARSA emerged in October 2016 with the stated goal of defending Rohingya rights.
Therefore, ARSA should possess Myanmar-made weapons to fight against #AA & 🇲🇲Military.
After years of oppression & following the violence & genocide in Myanmar in 2012, ARSA emerged on 9 October 2016, becoming a voice for the voiceless Rohingya people striving to defend their rights.
Historically, Rohingya people have commemorated 9 October as Rohingya Defence Day.

As I recall it, he told me that he, the USDP leadership, President U Thein Sein, and then Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing did not accept “Rohingya” as an ethnic identity.
He urged me to stop advocating for that identity and to persuade my constituents to identify themselves as “Bengali” instead.
He presented this change as a pathway toward obtaining citizenship documentation and restoring political participation. He also advised me to give a media interview stating that “there is no Rohingya but Bengali,” without mentioning our private meeting and his name.
My parliamentary nomination, he indicated, depended on my willingness to support that position.
I refused.
