Raman is now apologizing for her recent debate remarks that LAPD Chief Daryl Gates was a "gold standard" for his handling of immigration. Critics accuse Gates of racist policies.
"It was a mistake to reference his name at all. I was trying to make a point and I fumbled that point. That point was not to praise Daryl Gates in any shape or form. I sincerely apologize for mentioning his name. I know it causes real pain for so many people across Los Angeles and I shouldn't have said it."
Raman has said she wants to dismiss current LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell but has not floated any names of potential replacements.

Black women have had ENOUGH! 🔥 As a Black woman and civil rights attorney, I know how hard we've fought to earn our place in boardrooms, courtrooms and corporate America.
Now Black unemployment has climbed to 7%, and I'm watching accomplished Black women with decades of experience struggle to find work while their savings disappear.
And what is Trump doing? Attacking DEI, slashing federal jobs and sending a message to corporate America that diversity is somehow the enemy of excellence.
Let me tell you something: Black women didn't get where we are because someone handed us a seat at the table — we FOUGHT for it, EARNED it and EXCELLED! 💪🏽
I am SICK of watching this administration demonize the very programs designed to address generations of discrimination while Black families suffer the economic consequences. 😡
This isn't about restoring merit, it's about dismantling opportunity, and I will NEVER be silent while Black women are forced to pay the price! ✊🏽🔥

We passed the BAR. She lasted 5 DAYS! 💅🏽⚖️ Trump has made attacking DEI his PERSONAL MISSION. Vetting his own press secretary? Not so much. Katie Zacharia was presented as an attorney, failed the bar exam, and was ousted after five days and one disastrous briefing. 🙄
Meanwhile, my daughters and I, #TheLawChicks, did it the hard way: law school, bar prep, the exam, the license. No shortcuts. No excuses.
Black women have NEVER been allowed to fake it. We’ve always had to prove it, twice over. So spare us the lectures on qualifications from an administration that can’t keep a spokesperson for a week.

As a civil rights attorney, I am deeply concerned about insurance companies using race, income, or ZIP codes to determine how communities are treated and what families pay.
I asked California State @SenBenAllen, who is running for California Insurance Commissioner, how he plans to identify and hold insurers accountable for discriminatory practices.
He says he intends to aggressively use the department's enforcement powers to combat redlining and protect Black and Brown communities.
