Edmonton Elks rookie DL Darien Newell has been suspended for nine games after violating the CFL/CFLPA drug policy in May. Newell’s first violation came after he tested positive for nine banned substances at the 2025 CFL Combine. As a prospect, he was deemed ineligible to sign a CFL contract for one year after the Edmonton Elks drafted him.
