Andy Burnham’s Labour Government is working to push Britain towards rejoining the European Union without any democratic mandate. The EU is an openly anti-democratic, anti-worker, pro-war, racist, right wing bloc. The EU enforces austerity, prevents public ownership and is leading the drive to rearmament and war in Europe. Rather than preventing it, the policies of the EU are directly leading to the rise of the far right across Europe. On behalf of the Communist Party of Britain, fraternal greetings to @communist_au on its 106th anniversary. The bonds between our two parties stretch back to 1920, when both were founded. But the ties between the working people of Britain and Australia go back even further still - leaders of the Merthyr Rising and the Newport Chartists were transported to Australia; Australian workers sent solidarity to the London dockers in 1889. Tom Mann, a leader of that dock strike, spent years in Australia helping build the militant trade union movement. He returned to Britain to become a founding member of our Communist Party, and later organised the Pacific Bureau of the Red International of Labour Unions, which included Australia. When he died in 1941, the red flag flew over Melbourne City Hall. Today, as capitalism deepens its crises and imperialism threatens peace, that red flag still matters. Long live the Communist Party of Australia! Long live working-class internationalism!
