Some professional news!!! I'm beyond excited to join @USDOL as a fellow working for the Chief Economist. I'm honored and thrilled to continue working on labor market outcomes, an equitable economic recovery, and building worker power.
yesterday was my last day in the chief economists office @USDOL !! I’m so excited to be starting my PhD this fall at Princeton’s interdisciplinary program in Population Studies and Social Policy. Can’t wait to keep working on labor, economic mobility, and inequality 🎉
I’ve learned so much from my colleagues @USDOL and prior @EconomicPolicy @CLASP_DC. I’ve been so lucky I got to work with people not only smart and passionate but who truly see the people, stories, and history beneath data and ec policies. It’s made me a better researcher.
I'm really going to miss my fantastic colleagues @EconomicPolicy. It's been a blast working with such phenomenal researchers at EPI. I've learned so much and am really proud of the work I did while there😍
At a loss for words though we knew it was coming. The jaw dropping misogyny, denial of autonomy and dignity, and the soulless need to control and subjugate. I wrote this piece just over a month ago and hate to have to revisit it on this day.
My latest for @EconomicPolicy on abortion, the economics of control, and how this fits the long project of worker disempowerment in the 26 states ready to ban abortion after Roe. Take a read! epi.org/blog/abortion-rights…

Happy May Day! Here’s the post that @AshaBanerjee @jensherer and I wrote about its origins and significance.
International Workers' Day is May 1, also known as "May Day."
Now more than ever, policymakers need to heed workers calls for justice, end longstanding constraints on worker power & ensure that workers get a fair share in the gains they create. epi.org/blog/much-has-change…
Really excited to be quoted in this fantastic @voxdotcom piece on the absolute mess that is our child care system ⬇️
The reality of being a child care provider in America is bleak: Day care centers are shuttering, and providers are fleeing for new jobs. What will happen to the future of work without them?

And check out our recent report on higher wages for child care workers @EconomicPolicy @eliselgould @sawo_ma epi.org/publication/higher-w…
Expanded UI and state funds for non-UI eligible workers have all ended even as thousands still need the support. See my new op-ed on how expanding UI to ALL workers should be part of NY's economic recovery ⬇️
OPINION | Excluded workers need more help
Make them eligible for unemployment insurance, writes @AshaBanerjee.

🚨New blog out with @benzipperer. Drumroll please... economic policy matters and can be transformative! Poverty actually *decreased* in 2020 because Social Security stimulus checks expanded UI kept millions afloat. Poverty and hardship are policy choices. epi.org/blog/social-insuranc…

Lapis, an Adams Morgan restaurant founded by Afghan immigrants, is collecting much-needed supplies for Afghan refugees. The Popal family posted a list of suggested donations on their Instagram: instagram.com/p/CSsp-bEDn3a/…
Also, if you’ve never dined at @lapisdc, you’re missing out.
⬇️🚨New blog @EconomicPolicy co-written with @sawo_ma. We dive into the anti-CRT frenzy, the history of white backlash, and the economic connection: most states successfully pursuing these measures have low minimum wages and unionization, more voter suppression bills. Link below!
The attacks against "critical race theory" are state-sponsored attempts to disempower and further disenfranchise Black people and cut off any broad-based support for structural reform, write @sawo_ma and @AshaBanerjee. epi.org/blog/the-racist-camp…
In which a sitting US senator asks "is financial literacy pervasive enough in the African American community that, if given a large lump sum of money, an individual or family would be able to handle that money wisely?" I know blatant racism is unsurprising at this point but wow.
