Apollo Atomics (@ApolloAtomics) builds nuclear reactors that fit on a truck. Assil Halimi (@AssilHalimi) and Drew Walker launched at YC in Spring 2026 with one change to the pressurized water reactor, the design behind 80% of the world's nuclear plants: they shrank the steam generator. Their Compact Steam Generator is 20x smaller with the same thermal power. That turns a decade-long construction project into a factory-built machine deployable in under 24 months. In August they announced a $31M seed: ▫️ $26M in equity led by FCVC ▫️ Y Combinator (@ycombinator), TeleSoft Partners, Robinhood Ventures and Nucleation Capital in the round ▫️ Paul Graham (@paulg) among the individual investors ▫️ $5M in equipment financing from Oak Ridge Financial @guilleflorvs and I backed them through GR Angel. xitter.cf/rdominguezibar/status/…

@ApolloAtomics is joining the AI for Nuclear Energy Consortium to help bring advanced artificial intelligence into the design, licensing, manufacturing, and operation of the next generation of nuclear systems. Led by @INL and established under the @ENERGY Genesis Mission, the consortium brings together national laboratories, universities, nuclear companies, and technology leaders such as @nvidia and @Microsoft. For Apollo, this work aligns directly with our mission: combining advanced engineering, modern manufacturing, and digital tools to make nuclear energy faster to deploy, more scalable, and more cost-effective.

I turned up at the YC office this morning to find @ApolloAtomics installing the primary loop autoclave for their nuclear reactor 😬 It’s the new component that means their SMRs will be 80% smaller than traditional designs.

The nuclear reactor at YC Demo Day will be a sight to see, can't wait for you to see it
When Jessica and I spoke at YC last night there was a bright flash out behind the building. We were a bit nervous because there's a nuclear reactor startup in the batch that has a bunch of hardware back there. But apparently it was just a muni cable shorting out.

We’re pleased to see this coordinated federal support framework for advancing nuclear power in space. At BWXT, we’re excited to be part of this momentum. Expanding America’s space nuclear capabilities is key to enabling national security missions and making a sustained presence on the Moon, Mars and beyond a reality. Learn more about our work in space nuclear systems at: bwxt.com/space
Today, we are releasing new guidance to Federal agencies for establishing a National Initiative for American Space Nuclear Power, as called for by President Trump’s EO on Ensuring American Space Superiority. Nuclear power in space will give us the sustained electricity, heating, and propulsion essential to a permanent presence on the Moon, Mars, and beyond. whitehouse.gov/wp-content/up…
