While the airplane itself tactically was tied to the Soviet doctrine of specialization, thus hurting it in the post-collapse world of multi-role aircraft, the engineering that went into the MiG-29 is something to behold.
Spectacular start of MiG-29 Fulcrum. This feels so unreal. Can’t believe humans actually built this, the precision and engineering are just insane.

@Combination_K had a really good crash-out about it that just goes into the material science and engineering that went into the MiG-29. The usage of Scandium and composites was only made possible by decades of material science advancement.

You are missing the point, you cannot will 40 years of manufacturing technology into existence by locating the charred remains of an aircraft, even the earliest PI-64 and PI-65 discrete modules employed by the computers that predated C-100 would not be possible to immediately produce in 1939 if received in perfect condition, let alone recovered from a crash. MiG-29s hardware comes from an entirely unique epoch of manufacturing and computer technology, that knowledge of which would be required to understand how it functions in a reproducible manner.

For reference, in 1648, Tsar Alexis I (tool of the Russian Orthodox Church) issued a decree titled, "About the correction of morals and the destruction of superstitions.” It deadass ordered the PUBLIC BURNING of folk instruments and codified the ban on instruments in liturgy….

People don’t understand how insanely reactionary the Russian orthodox church was during the Bolshevik revolution times.

…not only were the instruments burned, but folk singers (minstrels) were exiled because they used song to express their critiques of the Tsar & the Church. The reason the Red Army Choir is known for their voices is due to decades of instrumental repression perfecting the voice.

What bothers me about American SocDems is that they don’t push class consciousness whatsoever, and rather than decrying capitalism with their platform, they call themselves “capitalists” with no capital….

…hiding that they identify as socialists—if they even do—does them no favors. They’ll be called socialists anyways, so why not advance clas consciousness and build coalitions instead of filling the “big tent”? They’re Lassallists, red-herrings to the working class.

Be so for real right now… Late-1970s Angola, Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Libya’s Air Force’s could solo 1939 Europe. These are just some of what Africa today has to play with in the sky alone.

… early-80s Libya solos France, Germany, Italy, and Spain alone. Images: Tu-22 bomber, MiG-23MLD, MiG-25P, & Mirage F1ED. Their numbers may not be high, but the altitude, speeds and accuracy they offer could cripple the Rhineland and most ofWestern Europe’s heavy industry.

An Algerian Su-24MK or a Libyan Su-22M3/M4 with a few Kh-27PS’s or Kh-58U’s is all that’s needed to blind Britain’s “Chain Home”.

F-106 is a tremendously underrated aircraft. It was one of the first flying weapon systems, boasting the Hughes MA-1 radar and fire control computer that could interface with SAGE to command the Dart to fly and fire almost autonomously. Really cool!
Something for the F-106A Dart fans. An excerpt from "The Engines of Pratt & Whitney: A Technical History - 2010" by Jack Connors. It discusses the J75-P-17 and attaining the speed record.

The MiG-29 up shorter than its operational range… which isn’t great.

the humble MiG-29A cares not for fly-by-wire. her agility and stability is thanks to her immense love for the proletariat.

It actually was functioning rather well in her 1989 fleet trials and the first years of operation. See this video of the trials. youtu.be/YDimMSg4YEU?is=KifY…
Shoutout to the 1991 manga "raid on tokyo" for some nice drawings of the VMF invading japan (Kuznetsov class actually functioning 🥲)
