🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵 I recently visited Aichi prefecture—meeting government and business leaders, students, researchers and entrepreneurs who are all contributing in different ways to the strength of the Australia-Japan relationship.🇦🇺🇯🇵 With Governor Hideaki Omura, I discussed opportunities to deepen regional and economic ties. As one of Japan’s leading manufacturing and industrial hubs, Aichi has deep connections with Australia—including its longstanding sister-state relationship with Victoria and significant investments by Aichi-based companies in Australia. I also met the Central Japan Economic Federation (Chukeiren); we exchanged views on advanced manufacturing, innovation, regional development and sustainable economic growth. The Australia-Aichi relationship extends well beyond formal partnerships. At SUNNY DAY, I met owner Jun Sato—who developed his barista skills in Australia and is bringing Aussie-style coffee culture to Nagoya. At Wine & Café NON, I met owner and sommelier Norie Imaura, a proud supporter of Australian wines. From advanced manufacturing and the future of mobility to research, education, coffee and wine, my visit demonstrated the breadth of the connections between Australia and Aichi, and the enormous potential to build on them.🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵

And we have lift-off! 🚀 An extraordinary privilege to be at Tanegashima Space Center for the launch of JAXA’s historic Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission. MMX is heading to the Martian moon Phobos to collect samples and bring them back to Earth. Five years from now, that remarkable journey is planned to end at Woomera in the South Australian desert. 🇯🇵🇦🇺 The samples will be analysed by international scientists—including from Japan and Australia—for valuable clues about the origins of Mars and its moons. Australia is proud to be part of this world-first mission and to build on our longstanding partnership with Japan in space—including the successful Hayabusa2 capsule return to Woomera in 2020. From Tanegashima to Phobos to Australia. What an incredible journey ahead! #MMX
