Twelve years ago, McConnell and the US Chamber of Commerce worked very hard to ensure that Thad Cochran would win reelection and beat a conservative primary challenger. Cochran was already fading, and resigned halfway into his term. Rs appointed Hyde-Smith to replace her - a historic first female senator for Mississippi, but also a fundamentally lazy politician who never really had to campaign. Dems made her sweat in the 2018 special, then in 2020. If they beat her, an all-time story of elite meddling in primaries eventually backfiring.
If Mississippi goes down, that will give Dems 56 Senate seats.

I stopped by Renee and Alex’s memorials today and was inspired to see all those who showed up to pay their respects and leave an “I voted” sticker. We have not forgotten. Accountability is coming.

I am 100% Team Nate in this beef. It’s *obvious* to anyone paying attention that the betting markets just moved over time towards the models. That’s the info they were working off of! They didn’t “discover” anything
Give me a break, the polls and models provided the direction in contast to vibes and dumb insiders. And yes it's good that traders were smart enough to trust them. But the better election models were more confident about the outcome than the markets and got there more quickly.

Voters did what universities, the media, and many other institutions couldn’t or just refused to do: They repudiated Trump. Jon and Sarah Longwell (@SarahLongwell25), publisher of The Bulwark, assess the new political reality on a new pod, out tomorrow!

UPDATE: Scott Colom's lead in Mississippi's U.S. Senate race has grown from 65 votes to 1,138 votes, with 96% of votes in, AP reports. Substantial ballots are outstanding in Democratic-friendly Hinds County, as well as thousands of affidavit votes. mississippifreepress.org/rol…

I agree. The Minneapolis resistance deserves a bigger place in American history than has been generally acknowledged. It was Waterloo for Trump's authoritarian onslaught.
Iran attack, gas prices, open contempt for economic concerns yes but underrated factor of GOP implosion was ICE terror campaigns in major cities. I’ve never seen so many indifferent or apolitical types radicalized so quickly. Pure conspicuous sadism; not remotely sophisticated

For all of the president’s bluster, we’ve been routinely holding free and fair elections in his second term in which his party’s candidates have often been getting clobbered, all without incident. A great tribute to the professionals who run our decentralized elections
One thing I absolutely did not have on my bingo card is this year’s post-election discourse being the most civil, least conspiratorial discourse in at least a decade

Congress really needs to address the problem of shortages in the supply of antipsychotic medications.
I just did a right-wing show where I suggested Republicans lost because they no longer have any grip on reality, and one of the panelists started screaming at me about how James Talarico wants to trans my kid. I don’t think they understand why they lost quite yet.
