I'm gonna do it - I'm gonna swing the axe.
Chapter 1 of book 5 is gonna go.
Along with a bit of a re-jig of chs 2 and 3, and a rewrite of ch 4, hopefully that will improve my book 4-5 read-through!
Help, I'm being plagued by my characters!
The buggers bullied me into writing more novels, and some even turn up when they really shouldn't--don't tell my husband.

One day, in some distant, magical future, my friends and family will realise how much it would mean to me if they read my books.
2,745 pages read on Kindle Unlimited for The General's Son - mostly from the USA.
I haven't advertised this book.
I was wracking my brains as to where the reads were coming from.
Then I realised - its advertised in my pinned tweek.
Thank you Twitter friends!
I've concluded there's such a thing as novel writing withdrawal symptoms.
It took me 2 days to shake my head back into reality and get on with some proper work after my writing binge.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Two weeks into my latest Meta ads experiment and I can announce a Β£120 loss.
I reckon that will drop a bit with some read-through, but right now, a profit is a distant dream.

As my husband says, writing is an expensive hobby, right? π€
Free fiction alert!
It's hard selling fiction. It's tricky to give it away, too, especially when there's no budget for ads.
So this post will have to do.

After starting on 7th October, a mere two weeks later I'm pleased to announce that 75k words of the first draft of my ninth novel is complete!
Yippee!
Such a great feeling. And I genuinely think this is my best one yet. Might even have a go a querying it...
I think I have a problem...
Help! I'm addicted to writing!

Does anyone else look at shelves in bookshops like these and think:
"One day, I'll see my books here."
Yes, I know I'm deluded, but it doesn't hurt to dream, right?
Just spotted typos in the blurbs of two of my published books on Amazon.
How did I miss that!
Rhetorical question, I know the answer.
I hereby declare myself a careless fool.
In a world where young Zargons are grown in labs...
βAre you sure youβre natural born?β Envark asked Mika, her eyes wide and head tilting.
Mika sighed. βYes, Iβm sure,β she said with all the patience she could muster.
βBut you seem so, so, so normal!β
Chapter 7 is out now. charlottegoodwin.substack.coβ¦
Question for Americans:
In the UK, we have a ground floor, we call the floor above the 1st floor, and the one above the 2nd, etc.
But on a recent trip to the US, I realised you guys call the ground floor the 1st floor.
So, if in my book I talk about the 2nd floor being 3 storeys up, would this confuse you? Or would you know Brits name floors differently?
'It's my best novel yet.'
I seem to think this for every successive novel I write.
I do wonder if I'm right π€
How do you plot a novel?
I'd put myself more in the pansting camp more than the plotting one, but my approach has very much evolved.
In this Sunday's article, I talk about how:
