Join us just before Halloween for a spooky event with bestselling author Joanne Harris. This gripping, powerful suspense story explores love, loss, and the mysteries of memory. Thursday 29th October, 7.30 pm - 8.30 pm. Great Hall, Oundle, PE8 4GH authorsinoundle.co.uk/aio-ev… Out on the moor, in the snow, a house stands beneath a pylon. It is a house full of memories and old things. And, in the dark, when the pylon sings in the wind, it is a house full of ghosts and fading memories . . . The house, Kirkhill, has a new occupant—just moved in, fresh from a bitter divorce and looking for a new start. The moor is the perfect place for isolated, beautiful in the changing seasons, peaceful, and with just enough of the previous owners’ belongings that it’s a perfectly self-contained and cozy home. Only, as the nights start to draw in and the weather takes a turn, so does the house. The cozy isolation becomes menacing, animals begin acting strangely, and it seems someone could be watching the house. The diaries of the previous owners begin to reveal a terrible tragedy that befell Kirkhill—one its new occupant may be unable to escape.

What an amazing evening! An enthusiastic audience enjoyed Dr Hannah Critchlow's talk on Saturday evening. People have since told me how much they enjoyed the event. I believe they loved the variety, from laughter yoga and exercise, to the experiments, seeing the brain react on screen, and all the useful information Hannah shared. Thank you to everyone involved. #neuroscience, #AI

Experience a haunting winter ghost story from the acclaimed author of Chocolat, as Sleepers in the Snow delves into the dark secrets of an old house on the moor. Mark your calendars for the book's release on 8 October. Fans of Piranesi and The Winter Ghosts will appreciate this masterfully crafted tale for a chilly winter's day. A chillingly atmospheric modern folk-horror, where the search for lost time is a deeply unnerving ghost story. A haunting tale of the frighteningly spectral nature of human consciousness - Jake Arnott Join us in Oundle to hear Joanne discuss her latest literary masterpiece.

Dr Hannah Critchlow: The 21st Century Brain: How to Future-Proof Your Mind in the Age of AI, Saturday 10th October, 7.45 pm - 8.45 pm Great Hall, New Street, Oundle Sometimes it can feel as though the world is tilting towards chaos: political shocks, economic instability, technological upheaval and a constant stream of bad news. Faced with so much uncertainty, many of us default to a sense of impending doom. But is that reaction hardwired – or can we train ourselves to keep a more open mind? Hannah Critchlow, a neuroscientist at the University of Cambridge, UK, offers many reasons to be optimistic, however. In her new book The 21st Century Brain she describes how we can all cultivate the mental flexibility that will be necessary to navigate the challenges ahead. Hannah was recognised as a 'Top 100 UK Scientist' by the UK Science Council in 2014 and named as one of Cambridge University's most 'inspirational and successful women in science' for her work in science communication.
