The hard part of the #Growth is not fund-raising. It's actually - #Hiring. Hiring right people with right years of experience and, at the right place! #Growth is merely a by-product of having Human Capital. Coz, Not all problems are solved by #VentureCapital

My impression at least what I read about the US is that their hiring practice is seriously broken. They try too hard to only get the best people with useless whiteboard interviews that they ignore a lot of potential candidates. Also no-one seems be willing to invest in educating

Ugh, whiteboard coding interviews. “Please show me how well you will perform at this job without using any of the tools you would need to actually perform said job.”

So bottom line: across the tech industry, how much amazing, world-class talent is being weeded out or scared away by what is essentially a hazing ritual? Takeaway: if and when I start doing interviews I will never ask a candidate to write code on a whiteboard.

The real question is what are you trying to filter for? Those whiteboards interviews might help you with interns of people fresh out of college. Beyond that is a pretty unreliable filter, almost a coin toss.

That just means you're elevating resume to the primary screening tool. Thereby discriminating against people who can't show whatever impressive pedigree that reads well there. Glad we can have some diversity in what gets you in the door at different places. At BC it's writing.

I don't have a CS degree...or any degree. Some of our best engineers at GitHub never even graduated high school. But also, some of them had a BS, masters, or PhD in CS. Amazing programmers come from all backgrounds. Using formal education as a hiring filter is nonsense.

It enrages me how often I hear from potential engineers, often minoritized ones, how they like coding but think they'll go for product or comms roles because they're afraid of the algorithms interview process. How did we screw this up so badly?!

Hello, I'm Luís. I got many years of experience working in software development, have authored several OSS libraries, spoken at different conferences, and my brain just got completely frozen during a "live code" interview (just couldn't implement a recursive algorithm on time).

Really interesting tool! It does interviews for you. It grades submissions automatically to ensure that they meet challenge objectives and avoid the typical biases in hiring autoiterative.com/?s=09
