A series adaptation of Charlene Thomas’ ‘BLACK GIRL, JUMP’ is in development at Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins and Christina Elmore’s Tomorrow/Today.
It centers on a popular cosmetic that makes all girls shine, except for Black girls. That is, until Bryn — the only Black girl invited to attend an exclusive summer retreat — discovers a skin-boiling river in the woods that makes her sparkle, too, and reveals the lengths the girls and the town will go to in order to steal her shine.

After a couple years of major progress, creators of color are seeing “real regression,” the president of the TV Academy tells THR.
When #Emmyssowhite began trending after white actors swept the lead and supporting acting categories during the Sept. 14 ceremony, it unearthed a reality deeper than the demand for equal acclaim: Actors of color can’t win accolades for roles that don’t exist.
“The Emmys ultimately reflect the work that makes it to our screens, and this year’s results are another reminder that progress is not linear,” Television Academy chair Cris Abrego says in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “We have seen meaningful gains in representation across our industry, but we have also seen real regression, and we cannot take progress for granted.”
