Great to see our new paper out in @PNASNews. We present an easy and affordable approach to induce BBB properties in vitro. Especially useful for human stem cell-derived models. (🧵1/12) pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.23…

We are disgusted to have been overlooked in #Budget2024 despite assurances from @dfheris that IRC/SFI stipends would go up. We are struggling. We are the backbone of Irish research & higher edu. We are undervalued by the state & our universities. We are fighting back - join us

Huge congratulations to Nollaig on this amazing work! Here's hoping Nature articles run in the family!
Very excited to see this study that @pjhpauljh and I led on interferon epsilon and ovarian cancer published in @Nature! And particularly delighted for @ZoeMarks16 and @nk_campbell, joint first authors, whose incredible PhD and postdoc work respectively made this study possible.

This is grossly unfair. For PhDs, funding agencies like the IRC have not changed their max contribution towards fees + are unlikely to on the back of increases. Shortfall will be made up by taking money from researchers, schools or students. What we need is more state funding! – at Dublin City, Ireland
College Board has approved a 2.33 per cent fee increase for non-EU undergraduate and all multi-annual postgraduate students for the 2023/24 academic year as well as in each of the subsequent four years universitytimes.ie/2022/05/c…

"The ideology of the modern competitive market society is then not one of equality of station but one of a natural sorting process aided by universal education in which “intrinsic merit” will be the criterion and source of success." - Richard Lewontin jacobinmag.com/2017/04/biolo…
For years, capitalists and their journalistic mouthpieces blamed joblessness on a skills gap. But there wasn’t a skills gap. There was a gap between what society owes people and what it’s willing to offer them at the expense of corporate profits. jacobinmag.com/2019/02/the-s…
