QUEERS AND ALLIES IN CANADA!!! Join the Coalition for Queer Ghanaian Liberation in OTTAWA ON MARCH 5 to present a letter to the Ghanaian High Commissioner demanding his public opposition to the anti-LGBTQ legislation!

Hey Justin! I co-directed this Heritage Minute. Anyways, right now, Canada isn’t doing enough to stop the genocide in Gaza. Canada is silent while Sudan is in crisis. Canada is doing nothing to support the Congo. Canada hasn’t said a word about the anti-LGBTQ bill in Ghana. Why?
2SLGBTQI+ Canadians deserve to be themselves and feel safe. We’ll keep building a country where that’s possible, and we’ll continue to follow the example set out by trailblazers – like Jackie Shane. Watch @HistoricaCanada’s new #HeritageMinute to learn more about this queer icon:
Heritage Minute: Jackie Shane
As a pioneering trans soul singer in the 1960s, Jackie Shane’s unapologetic and authentic presence in Toronto contributed to the local R&B music scene and made her an enduring queer icon in Canada.

🚨 HAPPENING NOW IN TORONTO: Canadians demand an arms embargo NOW!
Canadians flood the streets to demand an end to our government's enabling of Israel's genocidal regime in Palestine!
Diplomatic relations with those committing genocide is not normal. Selling arms to those committing genocide is not normal. We refuse to normalize complicity in genocide! #T4P

This is a temporary victory, but the Berlin-specific IHRA-clause is merely a symptom of a national issue. The 2017 adoption of IHRA as a federal guideline stands, regardless of this news. We call for a nation-wide rejection of IHRA. The call to STRIKE GERMANY remains unchanged!
Breaking: Berlin drops the IHRA clause - which limits criticism of Israel -from cultural funding applications after sustained protest from artists
"I have to take seriously the legal and critical voices that saw the clause as a restriction on artistic freedom" Senator @ChialoJoe

asked my sudanese friend today how the situation in sudan has been she said “at least the palestinians have the world w/ them, we have no one”
it broke my heart. so while you’re learning about palestine don’t forget the countless other places around the world that need a voice

I hope my fellow filmmakers won’t forget this. So disappointing especially considering all their performative actions in support of oppressed peoples. Shame.

ALT Black text against a white background reads "We join with the international community in expressing horror at Saturday's Hamas attacks in Israel and the loss of all innocent lives in the region. We condemn terrorist violence and discrimination in all its forms, and will continue to seek ways to illuminate paths to peace and understanding through the power of art. Our thoughts are with all who have been impacted."
