⚠️ Changes to BC’s OHS Regulation are coming November 6, 2026. Amendments to Part 8 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation will clarify requirements for tight-fitting respirators and reinforce that nothing can interfere with the respirator’s seal or proper functioning. The core respiratory protection requirements are not changing, but employers and workers should review the updated terminology and make sure existing practices remain compliant. Employers must continue to: • Select the right respirator for the worker, task and exposure • Ensure required fit testing is completed • Ensure workers perform a user seal check before each use • Prevent facial hair, eyewear, clothing, jewelry or other items from interfering with the seal or operation of a tight-fitting respirator Workers must continue to participate in fit testing, complete user seal checks and report anything that may affect respirator fit or function. 📅 Effective: November 6, 2026 Preliminary WorkSafeBC guidelines are also available for review and comment. Learn more about the amendments and respiratory protection requirements through WorkSafeBC.
