1,056 hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes are now facing closures or cuts in the wake of the GOP cutting healthcare to give tax cuts to the rich — per @ProtectOurCare.

Imagine if we built a system that prioritized caring for people instead of profiting off them.

This is an intentional escalation
President Trump ‌is sending ‌his border czar Tom Homan to ‌Minnesota later on Monday, ‍the Republican U.S. president said after ‌an outcry over the fatal weekend shooting of a U.S. citizen by immigration ‍agents in Minneapolis. yahoo.com/news/articles/trum…

This is really one of the more galling parts of this discourse every time it pops up; random American civilians are supposed to be calm, disciplined, ice-water in their veins, but armed agents of the state are entitled to take life on the basis of “feelings”
a woman is expected to remain completely calm as armed white supremacist thugs try to forcibly open her car door but an ICE agent is allowed to panic and shoot someone in the head three times from a foot away because he “felt threatened”

Difficult to express all the ways this is so incredibly sad
After thinking about it, should I travel across the state line to Minnesota? 😆

Let's be even more clear about this: -ICE's jurisdiction is ONLY on matters related to immigration. -They do NOT have normal police powers or authorities. -To stop a vehicle they MUST have reasonable cause to believe it contains an undocumented immigrant. -To draw their weapon on someone they MUST have reasonable cause that their lives are in *DIRECT* danger. -They CANNOT detain you with out reasonable cause to believe you are undocumented. -They CANNOT detain a US citizen for passing-by the area. Ice had NO jurisdiction to stop or interact with this woman at all, never mind pull out a gun.

The governor’s statement is now community noted.
I am very disappointed that a small group of misguided State Senators have partnered with Democrats to reject this opportunity to protect Hoosiers with fair maps and to reject the leadership of President Trump. Ultimately, decisions like this carry political consequences. I will be working with the President to challenge these people who do not represent the best interests of Hoosiers.

Congratulations to the people of Indianapolis for fighting back against a huge Google data center that would have raised electric bills & used massive amounts of fresh water. The function of new technology must be to improve human life, not just make billionaires even richer.
Indianapolis residents have shut down a proposed Google data center. The tech giant wanted to build a massive 500 acre facility, but people got organized and stopped them. The $1 billion data center would've used one million gallons of water a day.

WIN OF THE DAY: At least there are some judges who still have a backbone. The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed that private prison giant GEO Group cannot force or coerce detained immigrants to work for $1. It must pay $23Mn in backpay. news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law…

Reminder that the GOP has more margin for error on the reconciliation vote because three Dems (ages 70, 77, and 75) died in office so far this year. One ran for reelection last year while already fighting cancer.

Dehumanization is not simply a side effect of incarceration: It is intentional and has been a part of prisons in the US since the first brick was laid. That's why advocates in Virginia at @HumanizationPro are fighting to humanize those behind bars & drive policy change.

I hate how some of our pastors and churches have become accomplices for political corruption that Jesus would’ve condemned.
