Alberta Premier Danielle Smith intends to open up the eastern slopes of the Rockies to Australian coal speculators and billionaires despite massive public opposition and without public consultation.

The UCP always wanted to expand coal mining of Alberta's mountains and foothills. Jason Kenney started this, Danielle Smith finished. This was their plan all along and they lied about it.

TRANSLATION: The UCP botched the coal file so badly that regulatory opposition and court actions are now the only way to stop coal mining without paying de facto expropriation compensation to coal miners.

Albertans have said over and over and over again, "No coal mining in the eastern slopes."
The UCP government recently lifted the moratorium on coal mining in our mountains to avoid a lawsuit that they caused because of their own incompetence.
This government promised to protect our mountains and yet here we are calling open season on mining and risking irreparable damage to our economy, agriculture sector, recreational lands and water.
We need to keep up the pressure to tell Danielle Smith and her UCP this is unacceptable. We want mountains not mines.

Brian Jean quietly lifted the moratorium on coal exploration in the Eastern Slopes and the Rocky Mountains through a Ministerial Order. The Eastern Slopes of Alberta are essentially open today for coal mining leases.
Jean considers this “housekeeping” - I consider this undermining the regulatory and review processes.
Who is this government listening to? Because it surely isn’t Albertans!
I have already received 700+ emails from constituents across the province, rejecting this decision. Please continue to voice your concerns and email the minister, and cc my office: [email protected]

Albertans just received a giant lump of coal before Christmas from the UCP government.
Alberta's two energy ministers announced today that they want to increase coal mining in Alberta.
This announcement gives us no economic benefit and a lot of environmental risk, a lot of pollution, a lot of challenges for our watershed, a lot of risks to our agricultural industry, and it just shows once again the UCP is a political movement that has no interest in actually being a government.
Please email the premier, the two energy ministers, and copy my office at [email protected] #ableg

A reminder that, courtesy of @Alberta_UCP, I have to pay to enjoy the Highwood while offroaders get to trash McLean Creek for free.
