Is this why City Hall bypassed public hearing rezoning historical Old Town and increased density? We think it's one of the reasons. Songhees are part of the Hotel Development Group, alongside Aryze & Cascadia Partners. No disrespect, but this is why you have public hearings.
Behind closed doors, with no public announcement, the Province under NDP is transferring the Wharf Street parking lot to the Songhees. British Columbians deserve a vote. Governments should not give away iconic public land without public consent, no vote, nothing. @westernstandard
Calling on all lawyers to file suit against David Eby calling an election in the midst of our municipal elections across the province.
This is undemocratic and tyrannical.
LG Wendy Cocchia needs to intervene immediately.

I am struggling to find the words tonight. My heart is so incredibly full.
Skeena, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Thank you for putting your trust in me once again. Thank you for believing in me, for standing beside me, and for giving me the incredible honour of continuing to represent the communities and people I love so dearly.
And tonight, as we celebrate not only a victory here in Skeena, but the opportunity to form government, I am overwhelmed with gratitude, emotion, and an enormous sense of responsibility.
When I first entered politics at just 21 years old, I never could have imagined where this journey would take me. I was a young woman with a lot of determination, a deep love for my community, and a belief that one person willing to stand up and speak out could make a difference.
More than a decade later, that belief has never been stronger.
The last two years have been some of the most challenging, rewarding, and meaningful of my life. I’ve had the privilege of meeting thousands of people, hearing your stories, sharing in your struggles, celebrating your successes, and fighting for the things that matter to you.
I’ve also seen firsthand just how much work there is still to do.
Throughout this campaign, so many of you opened your doors, shared your concerns, offered words of encouragement, and reminded me exactly why I chose this path. Some conversations made me laugh, others brought me to tears, and so many will stay with me for years to come.
You have given me something I will never take for granted: your trust.
To my incredible volunteers, friends, and family, I truly don’t know how I could ever thank you enough. You have given so much of yourselves to this campaign. The long days, late nights, cold mornings, endless kilometres, and countless sacrifices have meant more to me than you will ever know. This victory belongs to every single one of you.
To those who voted for me, thank you for believing in what we can accomplish together.
And to those who didn’t, I want you to know that I am here for you too. Regardless of how you voted, who you supported, or what your political beliefs may be, I will continue to work tirelessly to represent every person in Skeena. That is a responsibility I take incredibly seriously.
Tonight also marks the beginning of an entirely new chapter. For the past two years, I’ve fought to hold government accountable, to make sure the voices of Northwest British Columbians were heard, and to advocate for communities that have too often felt forgotten.
Now, we have the opportunity to turn that advocacy into action.
But I know that winning an election isn’t the accomplishment that matters most. What matters is what we do with the trust you’ve placed in us.
There are families waiting for healthcare, seniors waiting for housing and care, children who deserve better opportunities, people struggling with addiction who deserve a path to recovery, and communities waiting for the investments and attention they need.
They are the reason this work matters. And they will remain at the heart of everything I do.
I promise to bring the same determination, compassion, honesty, and willingness to fight that I have brought to this role from the very beginning. I will make mistakes, I will have more to learn, and there will undoubtedly be difficult days ahead. But I will never forget who sent me to Victoria or why I’m there.
Thank you for this extraordinary honour. Thank you for another opportunity to serve you. And thank you for reminding me that a girl from a small northern community can make a difference.
Now, the real work begins.

Lorne Doerkson is an incredible man. I’m humbled to call him a friend. He will lead our province to prosperity. This is what a leader looks like.
This campaign was a movement and it was an honour to serve as its Chief Strategist.
To David Eby and BC NDP, thank you for playing.

Conservatives accuse the Liberals of letting corporate lobbyists write Canada's immigration plan.
Michelle Rempel Garner said she'd "wager a fairly large bet" that Mark Carney is "primarily informed on setting immigration levels by corporate lobbyists." His real agenda, she said, is a "low-wage, no hope scenario driven by corporate profit."
Hours later, at the immigration committee, Conservatives moved to recommend lower levels before the Liberal plan lands next week.
Did a single Liberal defend the numbers? Not one. They shut the debate down. Twice.
Youth unemployment sits at 13%. Liberal MP Peter Fragiskatos admitted international students "have been used as a revenue stream."
So who exactly is this system built for?
