The exciting discovery of a 'new' exoplanet that had been eluding observation, with Brasenose Tutorial Fellow Professor Jayne Birkby as science lead on the observing programme, and Astrophysics DPhil student Luke Parker carrying out the observations. More in the linked article!🤩
University of Oxford physicists have co-discovered a new, faint exoplanet, Beta Pictoris d, which had been hiding in telescope archives for over ten years.

ALT This ESO VLT (ERIS instrument) image shows Beta Pictoris d (arrow), the third planet found orbiting Beta Pictoris. The central star was subtracted during processing to reveal its environment. While Beta Pictoris b is the bright source on the left, planet c is too close to be seen. Infrared data suggests planet d is a gas giant about 2.4 times Jupiter's mass. The horizontal band is an edge-on debris disc of leftover material. Credit: ESO/B. Sutlieff, M. Bonse et al.
