And on the topic of Cryptococcus..possible new drug in the works
There are few drugs to combat the fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans. Brilacidin, a novel host defense peptide mimetic, may be a promising option—the compound inhibits C. neoformans growth & potentiates the activity of other antifungals. @mbiojournal: asm.social/1XM

Transplant ID it's evolving. Understanding infections in this setting are crucial to transplant success #ECCMID2024
#ECCMID Using comprehensive data from every solid organ transplant in Switzerland - able to estimate the burden & cause of infections in these patients. Enterobacteriaceae, enterococcus & resp viruses dominating with low rates of the classic 'opportunistic' pathogens.

Social media is filled with disinformation. It can be a dire, dispiriting place. But I've decided to stick around and not give in to the tsunami of nonsense on here. If we leave - they win @ESCMID #ECCMID2024 #ESCMIDGlobal
Interesting discussion on weaponisation of social media from extreme sides. We see it right now about politics & science #ESCMIDGlobal24 ‘Taking yourself out of the equation is not an option. Must stay online and contribute to the narrative.’ Totally agree @kakape @DrNeilStone

No surprise that #eccmid2024 #ESCMIDGlobal opens with a focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) This is not only the biggest issue in Infectious Diseases, but for all of us. Simply one of the biggest threats to humanity- as we face a world without effective antibiotics
Kicking off #ECCMID2024. Session on diagnostics highlighting emergence & evolution of AMR threats worldwide such as NDM @TheLancetInfDis shorturl.at/gtWZ0. Without global diagnostic capacity we will be unable to identify, respond or contain these threats.
