It’s true! Over the past four years I have had the amazing privilege of being the mascot, Testudo, at the University of Maryland. I have loved being Testudo more than I ever could have imagined. GO TERPS! ❤️🐢❤️

THANK YOU to Mike and Karen Weissel, parents of #merrillmade alum Brendan ’26 and fellow Terp Brad ’20, for launching an endowment of #UMD's Testudo Mascot Program! Brendan and Brad are both proud former Testudos. Funds earned from the endowment can pay for additional Testudo suits and mascot training camps, among other program needs. The new gift follows the Weissels' earlier donation to design and buy new heads for Testudo. Incredible generosity to support the symbol of the University of Maryland! #fearlessjournalism Read more: today.umd.edu/gift-gives-tes…

“I didn’t see that on my staff. But I obviously see it now.” Ralph Friedgen watched Michael Locksley and James Franklin grow up together at Maryland. Two decades later, he sees the rivalry. On the two coaches, a failed succession plan and the reunion: baltimoresun.com/2026/09/16/…

Michael Locksley’s and James Franklin’s coaching paths split through a failed succession plan, divergent careers and years of competition before circling back to College Park.

This young man is literally doing everything he said he would do for this university and himself, on and off the field. I want my kids to grow up to keep their word and serve the way Malik has done. Despite his rising popularity he seems like the most down to earth kid. 🐢
