OK, competition time: Where might the UK have spent this £6bn better than subsidising car journeys? teapawt.net/TheIFS/status/16351894…
In 2022–23, fuel duty rates were frozen in cash terms for the twelfth consecutive year and then cut by a further 5p, leaving it 37% lower than the 2010 rate in real terms. Maintaining these policies for 2023–24 would cost £6 billion.

Imagine £0.5million being spent on cycle storage in Winchester...or bus stops...or alternatives to driving.

I think it might show how far I am disconnected from the sport end of road cycling, that I read this and assumed they were talking about *shoes* 🤷🤦‍♂️

Has Lance Armstrong become a walking Clickbait?
"The only people that should be asked are the ones who were in the battle with me. I know their answer": Lance Armstrong snaps back at poll asking cycling fans if he should have wins reinstated road.cc/298767 #cycling

Half of drivers say they have "no alternative" but to drive, and are forced to spend 10-20% of income on their car. This isn't freedom, it's dependency. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023…

Remember I talked about improvements to Portswood in Southampton? There's a petition by people who support it. A good time to let the council know there's support for improving air quality: bit.ly/3gDhljS
Some Monday procrastination for you. We did the Ladybower Loop in the Peak back August. So, here's how a bunch of South Downs riders got on with all those rocks: youtu.be/vldqUcBhrvg
There's a phrase I often want to use when talking about sustainable travel and driving. I don't because it doesn't work for behaviour change. That phrase is "you lazy fucker!" There. I've said it.

Replying to @SouthamptonCC
@SouthamptonCC are consulting on improvements to Portswood Road, to make it easier to walk, shop, cycle & get the bus. It's open until November 11th. If you want Portswood to be better, it's time to make your voice heard. transport.southampton.gov.uk…

It appears that some people are trying to mobilise opposition to Portswood being better for people to live in and travel in. So, it's time to mobilise support for it. You don't have to think the plans are perfect, but do support them. because the alternative...
I do so love it when @BBCNews decides that my safety is an acceptable price to pay for an easy story. Thanks for that. I hope you get home safely tonight.
This is what happens when you base a report based on a pre-determined headline, rather than asking challenging questions. Questions like: - Why do we have such a lax approach to endangering human life? - How do we reduce transport emissions with people too scared to cycle?

And while we're talking about a "war on our roads" or a "war on motorists" let's think for a moment about the ~4.7 people killed *every day* on our roads. Let's stop waging a war on them gov.uk/government/statistics…

Now, admittedly, I can't find any data on how many of those casualties are caused by motor vehicle drivers. But last time I checked the collision stats looking for KSI with not motor vehicle involved...didn't find much.
