The BBC has announced it will turn off @BBCRadio4 Long Wave on 27th June. This will mark the end of our BBC as a national broadcaster, as vast areas of the UK will no longer be able to receive any BBC services (via FM,DAB,DVBT or internet) other than with a fixed satellite dish.

Very unfortunate to hear government and a representative of a private transmitter contractor praising the robustness of FM radio. Line of sight only, relatively short range, severely effected by atmospheric conditions. AM MW/LW/SW have none of these problems.

I've noticed that, since the cuts to MW and #LongWave services, many cheap battery radios now include rudimentary short wave. Britain, home of the BBC, could, in an emergency, be reliant on the remaining English language services of other nations. Criminal negligence.

I used to have hedgehogs living in the garden that I would see every night and share photos and videos of regularly: there were at least three different individuals including the named resident female Henrietta. This was until landlord of the neighbouring property decided to clear their entire garden— all of the trees, all the shrubs, all the bramble, everything was torn up and thrown out. They also tore down the shared fence between our gardens which had been an old wooden fence covered in ivy, with plenty of gaps for the hedgehogs to pass through. They built a brand new 6ft tall impenetrable fence. The construction of this fence may seem minor but it means that wildlife like hedgehogs can no longer pass through. The removal of the plants from that garden means that the hedgehogs lost a huge part of their foraging and living area. I have not seen a single hedgehog in our garden since the neighbour made these changes. I don’t know if it’s because they can’t get in past the new fences, because they were scared away, or possibly because they were killed in the renovations. I look for Henrietta often and wonder what happened to her. Did she get fenced out of our garden permenantly? Did she get taken away with the branches and leaf litter? Did she get fenced inside the neighbours garden and find herself unable to get back out? I’ll probably never know. I’ve made some gaps in the new fence now and though I wait for the hedgehogs to return, it has been several months now and I still haven’t seen any. Hedgehogs are a Red List species in the UK, yet landowners seemingly have no requirement to consider them whatsoever in any renovations they make. I pleaded with the neighbouring landlord (via some very patronising estate agents) to leave some habitat intact. They ignored me.
Britain had about 30 million hedgehogs in the 1950s; we've got under 875,000 today. The population has dropped by about 97%. Shocking.

We were told resources would be available in times of need. We’re getting a regional programme, not local programming. Stations like Radio Cumbria need their own dedicated service. Terrible.
Will BBC Local Radio be local to audiences when #StormAusten comes round?

Press disinformation alert: the Daily Mail told readers Britain “could run out of gas this winter”. Ofgem actually said a gas emergency is not expected. Share the facts: hackedoff.org/blog-posts/ofg…

Our hedgehogs are eating us out of house and home! 🫣🦔 We're putting out another little plea to our wonderful supporters, as our supplies of tinned dog and cat food are running very low! We currently have lots of hungry mouths to feed, including plenty of Britains favourite mammal 🦔. We've updated our Amazon Wishlist with the food we desperately need, and we'd be incredibly grateful if anyone could spare a tin or two. 🛒 You can find our wishlist here: amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/… Every single tin makes a difference, helping us keep our prickly patients well-fed as they recover and prepare for their eventual return to the wild. Thank you, as always, for being there when we need you. We really couldn't do what we do without your kindness and generosity! 💚

There are so many reasons this ending is so perfect but the reason which really touches me is the fact that the story does not end with Frodo who is essentially the central character to the entire story. Frodo's journey is complete indeed by the end, but the final images are what Frodo wants to leave us with. It is not an image of everything he achieved for himself and his legacy, he ends his story in the joy and sense of closure that once he is gone, he has secured and ensured the happiness and livelihood of all those he set out to save. As if to say in his final moments, that's what allows him the final closure he needs, his loved ones are going on and so in spirit he shall with them.
What’s a perfect movie ending you didn’t see coming?

Why are we allowing the BBC to be dismbered before our eyes? We don’t have to, we have the tools available to put the BBC on a sound footing now. The longer we wait, the more services, and the more jobs, are lost. share.google/92C9tMkLPxwUZSh…

Encourage someone today.
Piglet felt so Foolish and Uncomfortable that he had almost decided to run away to Sea. “Well done, Piglet,” said Christopher Robin. And at these encouraging words Piglet felt happy again, and decided not to be a Sailor after all. ~A.A.Milne #encouragement
