Execution and Consensus layers get most of the attention, but the REAL blockchain bottleneck may be hiding underneath: the Network Layer. A breakdown of @4Pillars_io's research on @get_optimum 👇 1/ We keep building faster VMs and parallel execution engines. But what happens when block sizes grow faster than nodes can propagate data? Network congestion. Missed attestations. Higher latency. Traditional Gossipsub P2P protocols can also waste valuable time and bandwidth through redundant data transmission. 2/ Enter Optimum-building the "Autobahn" for blockchain data. 🚀 Rather than changing consensus or execution rules, Optimum introduces a Universal Data Acceleration Layer directly at the network layer. 3/ Key technologies: Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) Maximizes bandwidth efficiency and reduces redundant data transmission. mumP2P Sidecar: Integrates alongside existing clients through a lightweight API no hard forks or hardware upgrades required. Chain agnostic: Designed to work across Ethereum, L2s, and alternative L1s. 4/ Real world performance: Testing under Hoodi testnet conditions demonstrated block propagation speeds of around ~150ms more than 6x faster than the standard Gossipsub baseline. 5/ Why should validators care? Lower bandwidth and operational costs Fewer missed block proposals and improved attestation rewards Greater potential for MEV capture The takeaway: True scalability isn't just about executing transactions faster. It's also about moving data smarter. Full research by @4Pillars_io: research.4pillars.io/en/rese… @blockchainjeff @cryptooflashh @ada_pegasus

The rise of Optimum’s network is becoming hard to ignore. In roughly a month, the number of Flexnodes increased from 6,700 to 417,700. But scale is only part of the story. A growing node network can strengthen the entire flow of information. More participants mean a broader and more connected network for data to travel through, helping improve propagation speed and reduce latency across the infrastructure. That creates a powerful feedback loop: a larger network can support better performance, while better infrastructure can make the network increasingly valuable as it continues to grow. 417,700 Flexnodes is not simply a bigger number. It represents how quickly the Optimum network is expanding and the momentum behind what comes next.

Optimizing the Networking Layer is the hidden key to boosting Ethereum staking yield without taking on extra risk New research by @fourpillarsfp breaks down how Optimum (@get_optimum) cuts block propagation delay from ~1s to just 150ms: The Tech: RLNC (Random Linear Network Coding) replaces GossipSub, creating a more efficient data delivery pipeline Architecture: Sidecar design via the Optimum Gateway enables parallel integration with zero consensus layer risk Validator Boost:
MEV bid values: +13% to +16%
Staking APR: +0.66% to +1.97%
40+ major partners including Kiln, P2P Blockdaemon & Everstake are testing on Hoodi (~$30B in ETH stake) Want Ethereum to handle larger blobs and shorter slot times? Its all starts with faster P2P transmission at the network layer. @get_optimum @blockchainjeff @ada_pegasus @cryptooflashh
In this article, we examine how Optimum targets the inefficiencies of blockchain networking layer, and its impact on validator economics and Ethereum's future roadmap.

Why are top Node Operators looking beyond standard Libp2p GossipSub? Under high network load or large payload transfers like Ethereum Blobs, standard P2P networks can suffer from retransmission loops and packet drops. Optimum HOP introduces a smarter way to test mump2p: RLNC Sharding: Messages are mathematically split into coded fragments. Nodes only need k independent shards to reconstruct the original payload. Network Efficiency: Reduce redundant bandwidth usage while maintaining near zero message loss. Instant Observability: Prewired Prometheus & Grafana dashboards are available out of the box. Whether you run a single validator or operate large scale infrastructure, HOP Lite gives you full visibility into next gen P2P metrics with a single command. From 6,700 to 38,700 Flexnodes isn't just a metric spike, it’s Web3 infrastructure finally scaling the right way. While most blockchains still treat data propagation as an afterthought, Optimum turns it into a decentralized, collaborative resource. Powered by RLNC technology (co developed by MIT Professor Muriel Médard), the network eliminates the need for validators to rely on overpriced, centralized hardware setups. What sets the Flexnode framework apart: Permissionless Participation: Open for anyone in the community to run a node. Streamlined Coding: Nodes collaborate directly to encode and distribute data. Stronger P2P Mesh: Fortifies the mump2p network for resilient data flow. Faster Block Delivery: Allows validators to receive and process blocks almost instantly. Cross Chain Readiness: Built to scale far beyond just Ethereum. The hard metrics: 6-20× faster Ethereum block propagation ~95% reduction in bandwidth overhead The underlying scaling flywheel: More Nodes → Better Collaboration → Faster Propagation → Lower Hardware Requirements. Optimum isn't merely speeding up block delivery for Ethereum, it is building the decentralized data acceleration layer for the future of crypto. Forget the hype. Focus on the 38,700 nodes executing right now. @get_optimum @blockchainjeff @cryptooflashh @ada_pegasus

Gmum @get_optimum Is Gossipsub slowing Ethereum down? Ethereum still relies on Gossipsub to propagate blocks, but it creates redundant traffic, network congestion, and unnecessary latency. With only 12 seconds per slot, even a few milliseconds can mean missed MEV and lower validator rewards Optimum: The Autobahn for Blockchain Data @get_optimum replaces legacy P2P routing with RLNC (Random Linear Network Coding): Encodes blocks into mathematical shards Nodes reconstruct the full block from any sufficient subset Eliminates redundant transmissions Delivers faster, more efficient propagation Why Validators & L1s Should Care +0.6 - 0.7% APR potential by reducing ~50ms of latency Higher MEV capture & more accurate head votes Better decentralization without sacrificing global node participation Plug and play integration with no hard forks or consensus changes Faster networking = better blockchain performance. As blockchains scale, optimizing data propagation becomes just as important as optimizing consensus. We're pleased to announce that @FPvalidated (a validator arm under @FourPillarsFP) is now testing mump2p. Well known for their top tier research work, @FPvalidated recently expanded into ETH staking to serve the Korean institutional market. Since Ethereum's network is less densely concentrated in regions like Asia, mump2p's latency reduction is especially valuable for node operators in the region to maintain high peering scores and performance.
