10/10s - 2026 update (alphabetized)
I only sparingly give 10s so as not to devalue its impact.
For me, 10/10 doesn’t necessarily mean flawless (though I believe some of these are), but rather a game that is close to perfect, or hits my threshold for peak enjoyment.
OoT visuals are so beautiful. Stunning.
IMO older games are difficult to properly remake because they have a specific art direction that’s usually lost with a modern translation.
Fortunately, they did a phenomenal job keeping the essence and atmosphere of the OG game in tact.
This is probably my biggest complaint so far, though it’s not the biggest deal.
I prefer the punchy, simple, and direct writing of OG. The remake’s writing is more flowery, and that never hits as hard for me personally. Most modern games are written this way for some reason.
Some of the new cutscenes are really cool though and make up for the script changes.
A few of the VA performances are extremely spotty, unfortunately. The exaggerated theater kid energy doesn’t move me. I don’t usually do this but I switched to Japanese dub and it’s much better.
OoT is so gorgeous. A+ presentation.
Tbh I was a bit trepidatious after the first reveal. Nope, this art style is phenomenal. The indoor and more contained areas look especially great.
Sort of reminds me of Dragon Quest XI, but not as stylized. Comfy. The colors really pop.

RE continues its winning streak. First half is some of the best RE yet. Grace’s segments are 9 or 10/10.
Fizzles out in the back half. Leon’s sections feel like a watered down RE4R with worse scenarios and progression.
Somewhat uneven but strong overall.

Really cool discovery game. Different than I was expecting. Thought it was going to be mostly puzzles, but I got a mix of Dark Souls, Zelda, & something all its own.
Combat didn’t fully click. A bit clunky, but not terrible.
The in-game manual - very clever game design.
One of my favorite things about old games is seeing the advertisement/product catalog for a different game inside
There’s tons of Silent Hill games now obviously, but they’re advertising the OG game as coming soon in my copy of SotN. Pretty cool snapshot of a moment in time
I started buying all my games digitally around 2023, but I’m back on the physical train whenever possible now
There’s something about holding a game in my hands and seeing it on my shelf that fuels my inner child
Also having a used game market is essential
Wrapped up FFIX.
Great game that really tugs at your heartstrings. I understand now why it’s considered one of the best in the series.
4/5
