Baptist leaders and humanitarian practitioners from 13 countries across Asia and the Pacific gathered in Jakarta, Indonesia, for a Humanitarian Action Course hosted by the Baptist Forum for Aid and Development (BFAD) in partnership with the Asia Pacific Baptist Federation, September 28–October 2. The four-day training equipped participants from 35 Baptist conventions with practical skills in crisis leadership, project management, security risk management, humanitarian principles, and disaster response. Through expert-led sessions and interactive simulations, participants strengthened their capacity to respond effectively to humanitarian crises and serve vulnerable communities.
Building on a similar training held in Nigeria in 2024, BFAD continues to invest in local leadership and regional partnerships for more effective humanitarian action.

BWAid Director Marsha Scipio served on the Just Community for Men and Women / Gender Justice Reference Group of the World Council of Churches (WCC). The group met during the Joint Conference of WCC Commissions and Reference Groups on Life, Justice and Peace, held October 4–10, 2026, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The gathering brought together leaders and representatives committed to advancing justice, peace, and human dignity. It was also an honour for Marsha to lead a Bible study during the conference, contributing to the gathering’s reflections through the lens of Scripture.
We give thanks for opportunities to engage in ecumenical dialogue, strengthen partnerships, and affirm our shared commitment to justice, dignity, and peace.

Baptists from across Africa and beyond gathered at the 2026 General Gathering of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship (AABF) in Nairobi, Kenya this month.
BWA Chair Rev. Karl Johnson addressed the theme, “Going Beyond Jerusalem,” celebrating the phenomenal church growth experienced on the continent and calling on Africans to see it as a hallelujah moment. He challenged delegates to build a new community beyond cultural, political, linguistic and geographical boundaries.
Other BWA team members also served at the gathering. 21Wilberforce President Wissam al-Saliby participated in the launch of the Baptist Forum for Good Governance (BFGG), while BWA Horizons Leadership Training Director Jeff Carter and BWA Horizons Africa Director Koffi SokeKpomgbe led sessions promoting Horizons and its leadership training work. BWA Director of Integral Mission Everton Jackson also engaged African Baptist mission leaders at the AABF Mission Summit, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in global mission.
We celebrate the vibrant witness of African Baptists and their continued commitment to the mission of Christ.

BWA Chair Rev. Karl Johnson, during his September visit to the Mongolia Baptist Convention, experienced a time of fellowship, encouragement, learning and shared ministry with a young Baptist community. From everyday expressions of faith and the spirit of collaboration among congregations to conversations with pastors, church leaders and seminary students, the visit offered a glimpse into a growing Baptist community seeking to proclaim the gospel and serve its people.
The journey ended with a simple hope—that they had felt seen, heard, and loved.
We are grateful for our Mongolia Baptist family and for the fellowship we share in Christ.

BWA Director of Integral Mission Everton Jackson participated as a speaker at the maiden All Africa Baptist Fellowship Mission Summit in Kenya last week, joining Baptist leaders and mission practitioners from across Africa and beyond for conversations on strengthening the Church’s mission and witness across the continent and the rest of the world.
The gathering also provided an opportunity to highlight the Acts 2 Movement, a BWA initiative calling Baptists to collaborate in witnessing, Bible translations, advocacy for freedom and justice, ministry of care and Neighborhood Chaplains as we journey together toward 2033 and the 2,000th anniversary of Pentecost, the Great Commission and the Birth of the Church. Highlighting the Global Baptist Mission Network, Jackson invited the Baptist mission organizations present to consider becoming members of the network.
We give thanks for opportunities to listen, learn, build relationships, and strengthen our shared commitment to the mission of Christ across Africa and around the world.
