This is so damn good. Excellent explainer.
The grocery store is where Americans feel the affordability crisis every week.
Over the past several months, we’ve spoken with families across the country about what rising grocery costs actually means for them.
This film captures some of those conversations — the tradeoffs people are making, the ways they’re changing how they shop, and the frustration that even doing everything “right” still isn’t enough.
KAEPERNICK: The part that I hope people take away in this moment is what Robert Kraft and what they’re saying by denying Macklemore the opportunity to perform with Ed Sheeran is they are willing to collude. They are openly colluding.
When we filed the grievance, it was like, well, the owners wouldn’t do that. Everybody just wants to win within the NFL. And the realization is, no. They want to protect their interests. They want to protect their power. They want to protect their money. And they also want people to know that if you take an action that they don’t agree with, they will come for you. And that was some of the warning coming out of the protest and some of the warning coming out of the grievance, is that they will organize against you. Which means that we collectively have to organize to be able to protect our interests as well.

Alabama only ended its ban on interracial marriage in 2000. Remember that the next time they use the “Aw come on, racism ended forever ago!” argument.

Two Klansmen drove around Mobile, Alabama looking for any Black person to kill. They found a 19-year-old walking to the store for cigarettes.
His mother spent the next six years dismantling the Ku Klux Klan in a courtroom. Michael Donald. March 1981.
They beat him, killed him, and hung his body from a tree on a residential street, across from a Klansman's house, so the city would see it in the morning.
Police initially suggested it was a drug deal.
It was not. It was a Klan retaliation for a jury's failure to convict a Black defendant in another case — a life taken at random to send a message.
Beulah Mae Donald refused every version of the story except the true one. She pushed until the FBI reopened it. One killer confessed. The other was executed in 1997 — the first white man executed in Alabama for killing a Black person since 1913.
Then she did the thing nobody expected. She sued the United Klans of America itself.
In 1987 an all-white Alabama jury awarded her seven million dollars. The Klan had no money — so it handed over its national headquarters building. The organization was finished.
A mother buried her son and bankrupted the Ku Klux Klan.

Adding: Pablo's work was so threatening that the Clippers hired "fixers" to try to smear him -- yet he continued to report on this even in the face of immense pressure, which makes the handling of this by the Times Co. all the more infuriating.

It is shameful that @nytimes @TheAthletic buried the fact that the biggest punishment in NBA history was the result of an investigation by journalist @PabloTorre. And to call it the result of a "podcast episode" is a further slap in the face. He won a Pulitzer for this story and they call it an "episode" instead of, at the outset -- crediting him with exposing this scandal. Really really lame.

Todd Blanche appears to believe that meeting Epstein survivors was a formality, that accountability is optional, and that your vote can be secured with theater.
Respectfully, sir, he is playing in your face.

It’s unfortunate for the trolls in my replies that I am an unapologetic, proud Black woman who will never cower when accused of immaturity or race baiting simply for holding a mirror to their willful ignorance.
Eat this and know there’s plenty more where this came from.

Karmelo Anthony’s new lawyer Russell Wilson shares more detailed information about why his legal team is asking for a new trial for Karmelo, pointing to issues with the first trial, which include its speed, limits on how many people could attend, comments Judge John Roach made after the trial, and an agreement between Karmelo’s former lawyers and prosecutors that wasn’t followed, which impacted Karmelo Anthony’s decision not to testify in his own defense.
Also, Karmelo Anthony’s new lawyer Russell Wilson backed up his stance on having Judge John Roach removed, expressing that, based on comments Judge John Roach made during an interview after the trial, the legal team believes he cannot be fair and impartial.

So this is what America tells brown and dark-skinned people now: install a “Nick Fury kit” in your car, because when armed men jump out of unmarked vehicles, you may have only seconds to decide whether you are being arrested, kidnapped, or killed.
