Need to urgently fill all the vacancies: 1) For the future of the NHS 2) For the health of the Drs and nurses 3) For the population 4) So staff will have more time for health promotion.

Despite all the difficult and challenges more than 1m patients will be seen today in general practice, tens of thousands in hospitals across the UK - huge amounts of great work ongoing, the NHS is precious @HelenRCGP @JuliaHB1

The Nutt authors were absolutely correct in highlighting the "lack of hard evidence" available come 2013. This paucity of relevant data was also true in Aug 2015 (PHE Report), and Feb 2016 (RCP Report). Yet, the 95% safer guestimate promoted as fact. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/core/lw/2.0…
You know that John Newton confirmed that the PHE estimate is based on the Nutt study: he stated that under oath in Australia, yes? Half of the signatories of the RCP report are the same PHE authors: are you seriously suggesting that they would have proposed anything else!?

Rumour is @BorisJohnson is planning a populist campaign to take over from @theresa_may. His opening shot last year was targeting Muslim women. He’s being advised by Steve Bannon, who thinks Yaxley Lennon is the ‘backbone of Britain’. That’s what’s brewing, folks. Be prepared

With MPs, academics, UK charities & NGOs lining up to meet with the UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) & other Big Tobacco funded organisations, & Phillip Morris International I'm reminded of this old Cherokee Legend that I stumbled across last week. The Boy & The Rattlesnake

Fake warnings on blu e-cigarette packs distract kids from the truth about vaping? Surely not!? Ah yes, that's right: blu is the flagship brand of Fontem Ventures, the e-cigarette subsidiary of Big Tobacco giant Imperial Products. Now it makes sense! eurekalert.org/pub_releases/…

For a little more about Fontem Ventures, blu and Imperial Products, see this from Tobacco Tactics. Any advocate claiming that the vaping and tobacco industries are separate entities is talking absolute nonsense, and applying pure spin. tobaccotactics.org/index.php…

Sadly, this paper (& vaping) has been championed noisily by much of the medical & anti-tob establishment in the UK. Odd to think of those people being lumped into the same category as tobacco industry affiliates. It’s the basis of mainstream medical policy in the UK. Sadly. ^John

.@FDATobacco must move forward with bold proposals to drive down smoking and address the youth e-cigarette epidemic – limit nicotine in cigarettes, ban menthol cigarettes and ban flavored cigars/e-cigarettes. These issues must be a national priority. vox.com/2019/3/6/18252176/sc…

Only last week, @NHSEngland, you *claimed* you wished to end NHS privatisation. So why is this vital PET-CT cancer service being hived off to the private sector? An astonishing - and unprecedented - escalation of NHS privatisation. theguardian.com/society/2019…

We applaud @SGottliebFDA for making tobacco a priority and his strong proposals to reduce e-cig/tobacco use. @FDATobacco must continue to address the youth e-cig epidemic, ban menthol & flavors and reduce nicotine levels — all actions w/potential to protect youth and save lives.
