$FICO why bi-merge won’t happen
Despite our nation's housing crisis, the FHFA is willfully ignorant of its recent proposal's likely impact. Moving to a bi-merge credit reporting requirement could saddle consumers with unmanageable debt and likely lead to millions of foreclosures, devasting the economy and worsening the housing crisis. HUD Secretary Fudge says her department hasn't been paying attention to it. @FinancialCmte

$FICO very low chance that bi-merge happens. In July 2025, Pulte himself had backtracked: the tri-merge remained the rule. The idea came from Sandra Thompson's FHFA in 2022, and she had already stalled on the same point. The three files do not cover each other. An unpaid, a line of credit or a collection can be at one office and not at the other two. The median of the three is used to throw the outlier, up or down. With two scores, we usually take the lowest. It's not the same picture. The studies that have circulated, including that of Andrew Davidson, quantify the gap: a significant share of consumers has at least one score that is 10 or 20 points away from the tri-merge standard, enough to change the slice of LLPA. There is also shopping. If the lender chooses both offices, nothing prevents the most favorable ones from being retained. The tri-merge prevented this by making the three mandatory.

$FICO « Pulte you are Hugo Chavez pal. » People understand that it is just another scandalous market manipulation. Pulte calls for an opened market but wants to control the prices. This is not free market this is Venezuela.
Straight from “super intelligence” $FNMA $FMCC parallel Venezuela. Pulte you are Hugo Chavez pal.

Pulte just posted that he's greenlighting FICO direct, with a $1 fee for an initial pull and a ~$65 charge if the loan goes through. If there is ANY institutional preference for $FICO backed MBS's, the moat is likely more intact than the current price suggests.

$FICO fell 26% because Washington put VantageScore on the same official price grid as FICO. Most people stopped there. Four facts change the story.👇

1. The extra cost was already there. Before this week, VantageScore already had a 20-point penalty on the official grid. A 780 Vantage was treated like a 760 FICO. Even after that penalty, Vantage loans were still more expensive. Milliman looked at 118,000 Rocket and UWM loans from May to August. Same type of loan, same LTV. Vantage borrowers still paid 0.093% more in rate. In the same score band, the gap was closer to 0.10–0.20%. So the market was already charging extra. The grid was not the whole price.

BONUS : VANTAGESCORE IS FOR FREE IF YOU BUY FICO . The bureaus provide VantageScore alongside a FICO pull. TransUnion still maintains this today: VS4 is available as a standalone product for $0.99 through the end of 2028, and is FREE if you purchase a $FICO score. It isn’t a product the market pays for; it’s an add-on for score-shopping.

He‘s missing the part where the three credit bureaus are giving VantageScore away for free because a) nobody wants these scores, and b) the credit bureaus themselves earn the money anyway and actually much, much more than FICO (but nobody talks about them).

$FICO The data suggests that FICO is capturing more mortgage dollars, not less, and it is accelerating rapidly. No data point that I can find supports the narrative that FICO is losing share to VantageScore. VantageScore permitted everywhere and paid for nowhere.

4. Almost nobody has switched. In August, VantageScore was 5.6% of GSE loans. About 99% of that came from Rocket and UWM. Everyone else stayed on FICO. Rocket will make VantageScore the default in Q4. That is one lender betting the gap goes away. The rest of the market is not.

The stock was priced as if the monopoly died in one post. What actually died is one line on a government grid. The real test is simple: does a Vantage 780 clear at the same price as a FICO 780? If it does not, this drop went too far.
