📅#OTD 1642, #Hull. Having chosen St George's Day to attempt to gain entry to the town, King Charles I is refused admittance by Sir John Hotham. In the face of this 'impudence' Charles offers to enter with only 20 horsemen, but is refused again. #17thCentury #EnglishCivilWar You can read more in my article for @AspectsHistory: aspectsofhistory.com/civil-w…

The Garter Star—Iconic eight-pointed silver star with Cross of St George at its center. King Charles I introduced it 1626— Before then, you only saw the Garter insignia on full ceremonial robes. Charles wanted the prestige to be visible every day, so had the star embroidered onto the knights' daily cloaks. A high prestige symbol, it remains today. #StGeorgesDay #History #StGeorge #KingCharles #CharlesI – at Streetly, England

A box of BOOKS for my two events this weekend in the Midlands. The Lichfield event is SOLD OUT (which is good because I'm taking a closer look at Henry VII's march through Lichfield to fight Richard III) and there's a handful of tickets left for Bosworth Battlefield on Sunday.
