There’s a lot of self-serving spin emanating from the UK government about how virtuous it is re fiscal consolidation.
Here are the facts.
Labour inherited an OBR budget deficit forecast of £87bn (3.1% GDP) for FY2024/25. After R Reeves’ 1st disastrous budget the actual deficit was £153bn (5.2%). Massive jump.
Labour inherited OBR budget deficit of £77bn (2.7%) for FY2025/26. After RR’s disastrous 2nd budget that turned out to be £133bn (4.3%).
So in its first two years it added over £120bn to borrowing/deficit (despite huge increase in taxes).
The OBR forecast it inherited for this FY2026/27 was £69bn (2.3%). It is now forecast to be £116bn (3.3%). That looks like an underestimate. More likely to be closer to £130bn again.
Inherited budget forecast for 2027/28: £51bn (1.6%). Latest forecast: £97bn (2.9%).
Inherited budget forecast for 2028/29: £39bn (1.2%). Latest forecast: £86bn (2.5%).
Far from fiscal consolidation Labour is forecast to borrow an incredible £260bn more over the 5 years from 2024/25 than the forecasts it inherited. Despite the tax rises.
Which will continue. Alone among G7 countries the IMF projects the UK tax burden to rise by 3.7% of GDP 2025-31. The only other country with a rising tax burden is France (0.8%). Italy is static. Rest of G7 have falling tax burden.
And let’s not forget Labour’s so-called ‘fiscal consolidation’ is all backloaded to end-decade. Unlikely to happen. So taxes will have to rise by even more.

None of this fits the BBC narrative
🇬🇧 A group of immigrants harass and assault a politician from Restore Britain.
It hasn't appeared in any mainstream media.
Now imagine a group of white people harassing and assaulting a Muslim politician.
What would happen? It would be all over the news, and they would be accused of racism.
Why not in this case?
A huge double standard...

Disgusting behaviour by the Argentinians at the end, especially Paredes.
Just a bunch of nasty violent thugs, and a disgrace to football. Never been so happy to see a team lose.

🚨The BBC had just sunk to a new low.
On Newsnight last night, presenter Matt Chorley claimed Nigel Farage said people should respond to the murder of Henry Nowak with “white cold rage”.
Nigel DID NOT SAY THIS.
The insertion of the word “white” by the BBC is obviously designed to change the meaning completely.
It was no slip of the tongue, Chorley said it THREE TIMES.
He came prepared to defame Nigel and lie to the country.
This is disgusting from the BBC.
Why do they insist on spitting in the faces of the millions of Reform supporters who are forced to contribute to their salaries?
THE BBC MUST APOLOGISE IMMEDIATELY

I read everywhere about the 'hard right'
This the term used to describe people who are
Islamosceptic - that is, people who are doubtful about the merits of a religion that demands child marriage, the beating of women, and death to all who oppose it
Perhaps 'sensible right' would be a better description

I would like to point out that Starmer has now managed to alienate the extreme centre
His plans for the evisceration of English culture will be outlined in a new Labour publication called 'Der Starmer'
Flying the British flag branded a ‘tool of hate’ in new document from Keir Starmer’s government.
The 47 page document has said the British, English and Scottish flags can be used as ‘hate’ symbols.
The document says the ‘extreme right has tried to turn symbols of pride into tools of hate’ and the flags have been used by the ‘extreme right’ to ‘exclude or intimidate.’

Starmer claims Mandelson lied to him during the vetting process. I don’t doubt that.
He says Mandelson claims he ‘barely knew’ Epstein. I don’t doubt he said that either.
But if Starmer believed that — when there was already plenty of compelling evidence to show it was a lie — then he was not fit to be part of the vetting process.
It’s hard to avoid the conclusion Starmer/McSweeney were so keen to have Mandelson in Washington that they brushed aside anything inconvenient the vetting process threw up.

Starmer implied, and I am not exaggerating, that his sellout of the Chagossians was somehow necessary to defend the people of Greenland from US aggression. You do reach a point where the layers of absurdist deceit become almost impossible to pick through spectator.com/article/i-have…

🚨🇬🇧 Incredible Question in UK Parliament today
“Why does the UK government suddenly care about Greenlanders, but doesnt care about the Chagosians - who The British Government have just gifted their home to Mauritius and China.
Notice how Home Secretary Yvette Cooper doesn’t even attempt to answer the question, she can’t, jumping straight to calling him a Putin Apologist.

“Let’s ban new oil and gas licences in the North Sea but spaff away £40billion buying North Sea oil and gas from Norway. Let’s buy coking coal shipments worth £7.2million from Japan but ban UK coal mining. Let’s plaster thousands of acres of farmland with solar panels but spend £50million on sun dimming experiments. Let’s give Drax an estimated £1.8billlion in taxpayer funded subsidies on top of the £11billion it has already received despite Drax burning an amount of wood equivalent to 300 million trees. Let’s give £500million this year alone to wind power companies not to generate power from their wind turbines. And let’s spend £30billion of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines but put pensioners, farmers and the disabled into financial peril by claiming there’s a £22bn black hole.”

Ten people stabbed on the LNER between London and Doncaster. I’m on the same line, going the other way. There was a time when an incident like this would have been in the news for weeks. But something equally brutal will happen tomorrow, or on Monday.
My country isn’t my country anymore. The population is unhinged, the streets unsafe. If you’re out and about all the time, on trains, in London, you just feel like you’re waiting your turn. Mugging, assault, stabbing, whatever.
It never used to be like this.
