Something I've found that helps Is to never allow yourself to do 2 negatives in a row For example Have 1 single croissant But never a second one Have 1 cookie but not a second Have 1 dessert but not a second Oh wait these are all food examples Ok you can get away with skipping the gym 1 day when you're supposed to go BUT NEVER miss 2 DAYS in a row 2 In a row of most "vices" or "pleasures" is the beginning of a downward spiral of self control If you can truly limit yourself to one single You can actually enjoy things from time to time without losing your self control and mental strength But as soon as you allow yourself to slip up 2x in a row, the chance for you to become controlled by your addictions or things you like Go up insanely And then instead of you being in control of your life These things control you and lower your mental focus and strength And everything becomes harder Your chance of doing well and being in control of your life Fall off a cliff when you allow yourself to enjoy anythings too much without paying for them If you have the croissant Immediately follow it up with a positive reverse action Something as simple as 200 pushups shortly after The 200 pushups aren't going to save you or make you in shape or make you successful But they will help to reverse the negative slightly and keep you on a better overall trajectory with better control of yourself Makes it harder to slip into the darkness if you follow up any negative/short term enjoyment immediately with something that you don't have to do, but you do it anyways most people accumulate 10 actions of no self control in a row and Eat the croissant Drink the beer Skip the gym Watch a show Go out late And before they know it, years have passed by and they've done nothing and their willpower is zero They racked up so much negative actions vs positives they are in debt so badly to their soul and body That to try and escape the hole they are in It takes 10x more effort to reverse the negative compound interest you accumulated against yourself And on top of that they've likely lost self awareness to even think about the hole they got themselves into in their sluggish state of racking up negatives So must you do a negative Fine Immediately follow it up with a positive or 2 to not slip away
