A question that I should ask myself more: What is the obvious opportunity that I’m not seeing because I’m biased, focused on small details and far from reality?

I love people who know their craft to an expert level. I could listen to those type of people all day, regardless of what they’re talking about. I don’t care if it’s flowers or planes. I just love a knowledgeable person.

Starting startups has become just like academia. When YC puts out list of companies they want to see built, it just further encourages the cycle of crap companies being made. Resources aren’t going to the most passionate, but to the people most willing to play the game. Those that are good at the game are the most cut throat, because their lives aren’t really enjoyable. They haven’t optimized for passion, they've optimized for a perceived path to personal success, not a change in the world they want to see. Which is why a lot of these founders u meet lowkey suck as people, cause they aren’t real, they aren’t building anything real. If you're making something real, you throw them off. If you’re illegible they ignore you Their search is for people who are legible, steps on the ladder that they can climb to get acquihired by some other fake ai company.

A rant on IQ & Race..... Most of the folks talking about IQ and race haven't studied engineering, the hard sciences, or attempted any serious language acquisition skills. Anytime you wrangle in these - the library becomes your abyss and you toss aside the IQ as a measure of intellectual ferocity because you see the world is far more complex in its beauty and depth. 99/100 the people who peddle in the idiocy of race and IQ are econ, physics, CS, neuroscience, etc and as well haven't learned languages outside their own language's schema in their adult life. There's a lesson in there. Everyone I've met in engineering and the hard sciences thinks the IQ race stuff is BS. It's usually the faux technocrats whose brains haven't been bludgeoned by being at the bleeding edge of analog systems or they have solely pushed pixels and shaken database cells at extraordinary rates of pay. I'll draw a simple example.... Ask one of them to learn Russian without talking to anyone who speaks the language and you'll witness the max depth of their intelligence. They'll stall out hella fast. As I understand it or what I could make sense of from a weak study of linguistics and Russian......English is an analytic, rigid word-order language......while Russian is a highly morphosyntactically complex, synthetic language requiring real-time fusional declension and binary aspectual calculation. Fusional declension means you end up "melting" multiple grammatical meanings into a single word ending. The binary aspectual thing of Russian is annoying af b/c you have to think in your head whether something is completed or a continuous process. If someone is truly high IQ then they'll overcome the linguistic jet lag and as well have flawless pronunciation rapidly. In English when I say "I wrote the letter" ... it feels like a simple past tense action. In Russian, I have to think about whether I spent all afternoon writing it or if I successfully finished it so it's ready to mail. When I was younger, I worked with Russian engineers and I kept hearing them use words in varied order over time. I speculated that the reason they were good at math was because they could scramble any Russian sentence into limitless permutations. You cannot extrapolate what is being said in Russian because you have to wait for every inflected case ending. Russian also forces you to see the world almost entirely through the lens of process vs. result. This is all to say the world is complex and the people who get lost in the IQ bullshit - miss the forest for the trees - and at some point have said dumb shit like "my IQ is high" whilst never having faced absurdly complex analog problems of the world.

if you’re branded, you can raise $100M+ for your seed round in a single week if you’re unbranded, you may struggle to raise even $2M why? 80% of VCs add negative value, and 80% of VCs are lazy. they ask claudette to pull a list of who’s on your team, then sit in IC enumerating your wunderkammer of IOIs and Ivy Leagues and ex-lab folks, and everyone gets starry-eyed, enchanted by the billions branded teams surely guarantee. enchanted by the thrill of throwing massive checks whilst doing hardly any DD, because, certainly, that’s irrelevant, and these people will figure it out, right? right. and so you run wild with the money. you store it in a grotto and show up at the doorstep of the neoclouds, the governments, the enterprises, with an unlimited rope of credit tied to an origin no one can quite explain some of the branded people will make it & rule the world. some of them are thrilling, brilliant, hilarious people, and for that, I’m happy to support and stand in awe of their success. but they shouldn’t be the only ones allowed to make it. many of the most talented & ethical visionaries I know are stuck in dead ends despite wanting to found, because they are illegible to capital. the unbranded genius has depressingly jagged societal intelligence. she is more awake to the rules of people games than the branded cadre, and yet she is never given a seat to play the unbranded genius is an opsec purist who only chats on signal the unbranded genius is invited to more exclusive parties in her field than many of the branded people, and yet VCs underwrite her network as irrelevant the unbranded genius is told to curate a public persona to seem smart to the salesmen of money. but she has an aversion to being perceived, so she operates almost entirely offline, where no one can ever know who she is or what she’s up to in the valley of automation, she is alone in the unquiet darkness. I extend a branch to pull her up, but every time, without fail, it snaps, and I’m forced to watch her fall into the valley’s maw. she gets chewed up and spat out, but she’s a genius and she’s strong, so she reassembles the bits of herself. but every time she does, it’s groundhog day yet again. and so i'm left asking: how do we brand people without logo stacking? I can’t keep watching unbranded geniuses fall. it’s becoming too much for the soul.

Wake up. Every profession deemed white-collar, the middle class dream, is about to be decimated by AI, at a much faster pace than anticipated, with monstrous social consequences.

i regret to inform you that personal growth rarely comes from acquiring new knowledge and almost always from: -getting humiliated -showing up terrified and doing it anyway -admitting you might be the problem

Have this longstanding theory that VCs are attracted to funding a new category until they know “how the magic trick is done” You always see it in the run up to a sector getting hot. Software. Crypto. AI Wrappers. Defense. Robotics. Investors use terms like “cracked team” and “relentless energy” because they don’t know enough yet to explain how the startup translates technology into a business. As soon as the magic is known and they realize it’s all a learnable trick that takes time, effort and capital to perfect, the allure is gone and investors move on. Am I wrong?

$TOSHI is the best memecoin size bet possible in terms of verticality. Just look at all the major CEXes that randomly posted cats today. 2nd most popular animal alive, yet 150xs off of the top Dog meme. Below 100m is free before the markets return.

This is the original bagholder
Eduardo Saverin gets diluted from 34% of Facebook to 0.03% in The Social Network's most brutal scene. Real life wrote a different ending. He's now worth $43 billion. The mechanics of the scene are mostly accurate. Facebook reincorporated in Delaware, the new company issued 24 million fresh shares, and Eduardo's stake collapsed while everyone else's holdings were protected. The detail people miss is that Facebook's own law firm prepared the papers he signed. He never brought his own lawyer, and that conflict of interest became the heart of his lawsuit. Then came the part the movie couldn't show, because it hadn't happened yet. Saverin sued, and the sealed settlement reportedly restored a stake of around 5% plus his co-founder title. Then he did the thing almost nobody manages to do. He held. Through the 2012 IPO, through Cambridge Analytica, through every Meta crash, he just kept the shares. He even renounced his US citizenship right before the IPO and moved to Singapore, saving an estimated several hundred million in taxes on the way. Everyone else in the saga settled for less. The Winklevoss twins took $65 million. Sean Parker was out of the company within a year of the events on screen. Eduardo took the stock and waited, and Forbes now ranks him as the richest person in Singapore and the richest Brazilian alive. The most famous victim in startup history won by refusing to sell.
