Washington has long treated Latin America as its own “backyard,” subjecting the region to intervention, coercion, sanctions, and political pressure. Beijing now says: No. At the United Nations General Assembly, China demanded that the United States immediately end its 64-year-long blockade and sanctions against Cuba. As China put it: “The adoption of this resolution by an overwhelming majority for 33 consecutive years reflects the conscience of humanity and demonstrates the power of justice.” In plain English: The United States does not get to violate the UN Charter, impose unilateral coercion for decades, and then appoint itself the guardian of the “international order.” When the overwhelming majority of the world rejects your policy year after year, the problem is no longer the world. It is you.

Canada must vote “YES” at the annual UN resolution to end the U.S. embargo on Cuba.
Canada has opposed the U.S. embargo on Cuba for decades. But its recent abstention at the UN raises serious concerns about whether we're bowing to pressure from Trump. Canada must stand firm. Tell the government to vote to end the embargo. actionnetwork.org/letters/bc…

Isaac Saney of the Canadian Network on Cuba and a professor at Dalhousie University of Black and African diaspora studies and history: “Many economists, many specialists in Cuba, point to the principal cause of the Cuban economic distress as being this unprecedented economic war waged against Cuba that has now become a genocidal siege. It's become an obsession of Donald Trump, but particularly Marco Rubio, to starve an entire people into submission by deeming, by denying them basic access to trade, to fuel and the basic necessities. One question I'd like to point out: What country could withstand this would stand what Cuba has done for the last nearly nine, ten months of this vicious, vicious economic warfare raids against it? What would happen to Canada if somebody were to cut off its access to international trade and so forth? It would lead to chaos. And so I think it's important to bear in mind that what Cuba is undertaking, as Julio has pointed out, with its 176 measures, has been long debated and discussed about improving the efficiencies of the economy. But as the United Nations report and many scholars have pointed out in the studies, the principal cause of Cuba's economic distress is this is this criminal, illegal and immoral economic war waged by Washington.”

We as a country during the Kazan Summit in 2024, Cuba was approved as a partner country. And on January 1st, 2025, Cuba became a member, a partner country to BRICS. And we have cooperated a lot among this organisation in order to strengthen the cooperation in many fields, in economic, in commercial, in financial, and also in cooperation. Cuba can contribute to BRICS. For example, we have a long-standing experience in medical health. Cuba has a very strong medical health system in our country. We have created five vaccines against COVID-19. Cuba for more than 60 years has provided medical services to many countries in the world, more than 100 countries." In 1999, a South African conservationist named Lawrence Anthony was offered a herd of "rogue" elephants scheduled to be shot, and he took them onto Thula Thula, a depleted reserve in Zululand, camping beside them at night until they stopped breaking out — when he died in 2012, the herd walked twelve hours to his house and stood vigil for two days.
