Indeed, the Central Bank of #Egypt (CBE) is doing a good job and knows well that there is no room for complacency as the regional storm is brewing. It took two crises and almost $75bn of GCC support since 2013 (a large part of which were swapped for prime local assets) to bring Egypt back from the brink. The lesson has been learnt the hard way; and consolidating the hard-won and regained credibility of the CBE with international investors (as positioning hovers around $25/30bn) is critical amidst heightened geopolitical uncertainty, and anticipated end of the IMF EFF program in December. Kudos indeed as there are no easy options.
The Egyptian Pound is falling. That's not a sign of weakness, but a sign of good policy. Oil prices are spiking as fears of another hot war build, so the weaker Pound is offsetting all of that. Egypt deserves huge kudos for letting the Pound float... robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/…

I just arrived in Egypt. Amid intensifying conflicts, I carry a message with me: We need to stop the widening of war, protect civilians & create the political space for diplomacy & peace. We must tackle the inequalities that divide societies – & stop the conflicts that are multiplying human suffering & pushing an already unequal world further apart.

Of course. The purpose of all this is to show solidarity with Saudi Arabia and to push for more negotiations although Cairo’s leverage remains limited.

After investigations that lasted for over six hours, Mada Masr Editor-in-Chief Lina Attalah was ordered released by prosecutors on Wednesday evening on LE100,000 bail. Attalah was questioned by the Supreme State Security Prosecution in Case 9072/2026 on charges of publishing false news inside and outside the country, with questions touching on a recently-published Mada Masr report concerning a wave of protest actions at a number of prisons across the country. She was also questioned about Mada Masr’s work since its foundation, as well as about the steps its management has taken to obtain a license, according to lawyer Mokhtar Mounir. storage.googleapis.com/madam…

Lina Attalah, Mada Masr’s editor-in-chief, received a summons today from the Supreme State Security Prosecution to attend a questioning session on Wednesday, October 21. The summons did not say why she is being questioned. The new investigation, Case 9072/2026, is the sixth case brought against Mada Masr, its journalists and its editor-in-chief in the past six years. The most recent was in August 2025, when the security prosecution released Attalah on LE30,000 bail. She was questioned at the time on charges of “broadcasting false news” and “using a website without a license,” based on a National Security Agency investigation report, in relation to a Mada Masr story on prisoners’ complaints of abuse in detention facilities. When asked why she trusted the sources cited in the story, Attalah said she had abided by professional journalistic standards and had acted in the public interest. She also pointed to the legally protected right to inform authorities of events through publication, noting that the outlet presents a full range of viewpoints. storage.googleapis.com/madam…
