Many saw Lennart Karl celebrate by holding both hands to his ears in response to recent criticism from Uli Hoeneß and Max Eberl.
Bayern press officer Dieter Nickles was then caught on video trying to steer reporters away from the topic. After a journalist asked Tom Bischof about the celebration, Nickles first shook his head, then smiled and wagged his raised finger at the reporter. Before the next interview, with Manuel Neuer, Nickles told the journalists: "Manu, without the celebration, okay."
Eberl said he didn't see the celebration because he was celebrating himself. Tom Bischof, one of Karl's closest friends at the club, said he has no idea what Karl meant [@BILD]
Mats Hummels criticizes Lennart Karl's celebration against Atlético Madrid and says he forbids his son from doing it: "My son is eight. In the games of his team I already see kids doing this celebration, because it happens so often now. I forbid him the celebration." [@PrimeVideoDE]
Manuel Neuer praises Dayot Upamecano's form: "Sensational, I have to say honestly. Especially his form, the way he plays, is incredible. And it's not just that he performs excellently defensively, he also makes good decisions going forward, even dribbles across the whole pitch and gets shots away in the last few games. For the defence he's worth his weight in gold and I really like playing with him"
You're very, very close to Lennart Karl - can you explain his goal celebration with the fingers at his ear?
Bischof: "I'm very, very close to him, but I have no idea what he did there. I think we're all happy for him that he scored a goal. And a very, very important goal, a very good goal. It wasn't easy and I'm just happy for him"
• You did a lot of work against the ball, which people haven't known from you before. How was that?
Bischof: "I think I do both well and gladly. It's fun to work against the ball too, and when you see how we all go for the ball together and push each other, it's easier for me. It got me into the game well, but it was a very, very good performance from everyone"
• How did you experience the Atlético myth of playing so hard and intensely?
Bischof: "We were hard ourselves and held up well against it. I think every one of us did that today. Being nasty in the duels but still setting up our game, not letting them get into those duels, playing fast. I think we did that quite well today"
When did you find out you would start?
Bischof: "This morning. I was very happy about that, and I hope Pavlo [Pavlović] is okay again now"
Tom Bischof reveals he received messages from Serge Gnabry and Saibari after the game: "Of course it's not easy, but today after the game too, I got messages from Serge, from Isi, and you're just happy about that. The lads are watching from home, and I've already said we're not only playing for ourselves but for them too, because it's exactly in those moments, I've said this before, that shows what a family we are, and I think everyone here can see that right now, and we're standing together" [@SkySportDE]
Max Eberl on Aleksandar Pavlović: "Nothing serious, a knock, partly muscular, but nothing serious" [@SPORT1]
Do you know what Lennart Karl's celebration means?
Aaron Danks: "I haven't seen the celebration, I was too busy jumping up and down and celebrating with the staff."
Max Eberl: "No, I honestly didn't see the celebration because I was celebrating too, and then I don't look at what they do. I'm happy for him that we scored a goal."
Max Eberl on Dayot Upamecano: "Thank God we extended him. Thank God he's at our club, and he's been playing at world-class level for weeks. He already did it last season at the World Cup, now again incredibly good. He scores goals, even scored goals in the past. There's nothing more to say except world class" [@SPORT1]
Aaron Danks on Dayot Upamecano's performances: "I think Upamecano's performances for a long time have been underrated. What he brings to the team in terms of his character and personality is fantastic, but his performances have also been so good. He's a really difficult defender to play against. I see every day in training how top attackers go up against him and he's in the duels and the battles with them every single day, so on match days he's no different. His performance again tonight, along with Jonathan Tah, the rest of the back four and Manuel Neuer in goal, was fantastic. But for sure Upamecano deserves credit for his performances. He's been fantastic"
Danks: "We're really pleased with the whole team performance today. I thought our all-round game was fantastic, the way we defended together as a group to get the clean sheet and the way we attacked and created chances"
Aaron Danks on Lennart Karl's performance and goal: "There's been a lot of noise around Lennart Karl recently. As a young player, I think he showed great character and great mental strength. He has a good belief in himself, and his performance today was great, capped off with a really good goal. I thought he finished it excellently, lifting it over the goalkeeper. I haven't seen the celebration, I was too busy jumping up and down and celebrating with the staff. We're really pleased for Lenny, pleased for the group, and pleased with the team's performance tonight"
What does it say about the group that everyone celebrates with Lennart Karl?
Neuer: "When we wear our shirt and are on the pitch together, it's crucial that we do everything for the team and the club and try to win games. No matter who scores, it's important that we celebrate those goals. Lenny is a very important part of our team and part of the group, so we're happy for him. I always wish him the best game and great performances, and he proved that again today. There's nothing to discuss or make an issue of, for me too" [@PrimeVideoDE]
Did you have your 164th Champions League appearance, which passes Messi and Müller, on your radar?
Neuer: "I knew I had drawn level with Thomas and Messi. I can't help that they moved on so early." [@PrimeVideoDE]
• When did you know you'd be fit for the game?
Neuer: "The medical department did everything. It really wasn't an easy situation for me in recent days and weeks. I had pain when walking every day, this morning too, but then I walked myself in and was in the water on the roof terrace this morning at 14 degrees. It got better and better. I believed in it. Now I'm really happy I could be on the pitch, that we kept a clean sheet and won 2-0" [@PrimeVideoDE]
Neuer after the game: "Total dominance from the first to the 93rd minute. No matter what Atlético put against us, we always had an answer. We're really happy, especially given that we had to cut back a bit because of injuries and what happened at FC Bayern recently. I think we had an answer to everything defensively. That was very important today" [@PrimeVideoDE]
Manuel Neuer asked whether this stadium would be a worthy place for his hypothetical last game on June 5th, 2027: "Yes, definitely. Maybe it's also a good omen that we won here now. It's of course a hard, rocky road for all of us, for all the teams who are the usual suspects, the candidates to reach the final here. We believe in it, we have it in us and we're giving everything for it" [@PrimeVideoDE]
